Hi everyone,
Because of the AdBlue system fitted on the 2020 Dethleffs Trend, the standard fuel tank is only 70L, so I ordered mine with the largest now available 90L.
Since delivery in March I have tried to check the fuel capacity by running the tank as dry as I dare (when local) and then filling to the brim. On the last occasion with the fuel gauge warning light on and the trip computer reading zero miles left, I managed to fill to the brim with only 76L.

My Question is, do I have 14L left in the tank? If this is the case, is it normal for the gauge and trip computer to be this inaccurate on the Fiat Ducato?

My supplying dealer and local Fiat agent tell me that the vehicle is fitted with the 90L tank. The Fiat part number on the fuel tank is 1379080080.

My last motorhome was a Sprinter-based Hymer with an extra large fuel tank. I found its gauge and trip computer readings to be very accurate.

Regards.

Fuel gauge \ trip computer is only an estimation. Park facing uphill \ downhill could give different readings.

I don’t trust fuel gauges or low fuel warning lights. A Renault truck I drove caught me out on the first trip. The low fuel warning light came on and the engine cut out. The dealers said they knew about this. The wrong gauge was fitted to the tanks on that batch of trucks.
The tank on our Transit gives us just over 400 miles so I work on that rather than trusting the gauge.

Is the fuel gauge sender the same part number for both size tanks?
I've come across it before on other vehicles where tank sizes change but senders dont ...so read inaccurately in the bigger tanks

The Renaults had long range tanks fitted on build but Renault said the senders that they fitted were for the standard tank. With that in mind the sender should be different to allow for the extra depth of the tank. If this is right there would be fuel in the tank after the gauge read empty not as we had with the tank being empty. They never did resolve the issue in the three years I ran that truck. They said the tanks were not a Renault part.
I carried 10ltrs of fuel in a can. Working a remote area with no late opening garages that took our fuel cards was a pain.
