It all has to meet a Cetane number of 51 no matter where you buy it.
The higher the number the faster it burns, ideal for high speed modern engines.
California's has a minimum 75 to 78 Cetane.
Addatives make it burn cleaner, not faster

Not the clearest picture but you can make out where the diesel and water have separated. This came out of the fuel filter on my work van last year, Supermarket fuel... Nevet again.View attachment 509816
Your having a laugh trying to diss’ supermarket fuel based on that
you will be saying Kennedy shot himself next 😂😂

There's more chance that's condensation forming in the tank than from the pumps.

Not that this will help but I drove a Renault recovery truck that had a long range tank fitted. Unfortunately the fuel gauge was always a bit vague. If the warning light came on it managed about a mile before the engine cut out.
I carried 10 litres of diesel and it wasn’t too bad to re start but it was embarrassing if it happened with passengers in the cab.

My defender does 100 miles off the scale, 100 miles to half, 100 miles no fuel. As long as you know, then no problem.

My question is: How far would you feel comfortable driving once the "Near-empty" warning light comes on.
About 44miles if I saw the light come on. Less if in doubt that I noticed the alert at the earliest chance.

My Peugeot Boxer shows the low fuel light when there is 120 miles still to go. Often get the management team asking "what is that light on the dash?"
I ignore the light and my management team.:(
