Hi all we have just returned from 6 weeks in Europe, during a visit to a site in the Camargue we had an incident which caused damage to our beloved Weinberg Pepper.
We sat outside the van after a swim in the Med it was around 43deg so all windows and Heki's were open including the front curved glass above the driving cabs, This curved class unit has 5 clasps and 2 support rods which can open the window in 2 positions, this was opened on the first level at the time of the incident.
A large gust of wind suddenly occurred and we heard a large bang and the curved glass window dropped onto the floor in front of the van, no one was parked there.
On inspection the glass has broken off all along the hinge and other scratches.
I proceeded to take out one part of the hinge left on the van roof. I refitted the roof and glued with supper glue (which was not successful) Then used gafa type tape to reduce any water ingress.
I contacted my insurance via a costly call, who informed me to get in touch when I returned to UK. When we returned I was informed £450 plus loss of no claims. (not happy)
So I have now hopefully acquired a new part at a much less cost and no claims bonus in tact.
The moral of the story, don't rely in the supports for the front curved glass when windy.
Try to get a replacement part before claiming from insurance companies, if you can fit the replacement part yourself or have a local garage fit it.
The tour was completed successfully with no other problems, we had a great time and saw many places on my bucket list. The weather was outstanding and the solar provided the fridge power every day, so lots less LPG used on this trip. We met loads of interesting people from many nations.
JUST DO IT.
