I thought I would start a new thread based on our short motorhome experience, less than 3 years and what we started with and what we have now, it would be interesting to see other peoples previous motorhomes and photos. 1st Renault Trafic Holdsworth Ranger. 2nd Autotrail Cheyenne, and latest Lakia Ecovip 6.1.

Our first and best loved van, bought unseen off eBay, did 3000 miles around Europe within 3 months of buying it.
Rust caught up with it in the end, but still sold it for the same price we bought it for.
Loved it

Our second van, thought we should go a bit more upmarket, it was ok but never got the same enjoyment out of it we did with the old ldv, always worried about scratching it or dents and couldn't just stick a hole or two in it for improvements.
And also found we couldn't get into the same places.
Nice but not for us:(

Now we come to the one that will be the last, much more our style, built to our own specs, been much farther in this than we ever wanted to in the last one.
And here it is parked on our favourite Aire, motorhomeing for us doesn't get much better than this combination.(y)(y):love::love::love::love:

Started with this in 1998. It was a first home for 12-months when we first emigrated to NZ.
Roger Akaroa.jpg

Sold it after about 3 years and were motor homeless for about 4 years (reverted to tents), then bought this ex-rental which we had a lot of fun with for 10 years. See below.

Trip South 034.jpg

Sold the Transit, went to the UK and bought a water-tight Autotrail Tracker FB, drove it around Britain for six-months and then exported it to New Zealand.
Still using it and very happy.
There have been times when we have had a motorhome in each hemisphere.
We particularly enjoyed the 4-year-old Ace Capri we bought in 2008 from a finance company via a British Car Auctions repossession auction. That van took us all over Britain and eastern Europe, wildcamping 90% of the time. We spent over 700 nights in her and visited 18 countries. I think we did about 40,000miles. She never let us down and we sold her through British Car Auctions four years later losing just £2,000.

Have to disappoint with first and present a the N&B Arto (2003) bought in 2009 is still ours.

Having 3 in 3 years, like the OP, seems to be quite common, but not my style - I put a lot of research into finding what I wanted and waiting for the right one to come on market and it paid off.

Have any of you who have switched frequently, and maybe at profits, ever been accused by HMRC of 'dealing'?

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
I started 35 years ago with a succession of three of these 970cc and 26mpg Bedford Bambis purely as accommodation when competing at events and for 20 years I trailered my motorbike or racing dinghy to the events all around Europe ...........they all expired with terminal rust.

Twelve years ago I bought the next (my current) Compass on an automatic VW T4 base when it was already 13 years old. I have only ever toured abroad (I live only a 20 miles drive from France :giggle: ) and it has been faultless so I've never given a moment's thought to changing it.

By jan 2014 we were in Morocco!

We full-timed for 5 years then only sold it a month after we bought a little base in Spain.

One year later we bought this 1986 Hymer b544

Been fixing it ever since...... But love it!

Has anyone else swapped vans for something 21 years older?
