enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Currently in Luxembourg and will visit the City tomorrow, then move onto Belgium on Thursday - we have visited Ypres previously, so looking for other places to visit, spend some time exploring and hopefully stay overnight for free .....!!!!

can anyone recommend any places to visit and stay over please in Belgium - not looking to drift into either Dutchland or Deutchland (lol)

thanks

(no doubt chaser will recommend we stay overnight at Gravelines, so thats already on the list for our last night before crossing)

Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 at Zonnebeke.
Plenty of room in the top car park and it's free. Nice park with memorial displays & a lake and the museum is well worth a visit.
Good Boulanger & deli in the village only a few minutes walk.

This may be on your route and worth a stop.
There is a canal side parking spot just down the road where vans overnight, no facilities but next to the older smaller boat lift and easy walk to the new one. Think its listed on one of the stopover apps, https://www.google.com/maps/place/Strépy-Thieu+Boat+Lift/@50.471317,4.0891297,222m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x47c2485614ee33eb:0x120226c155cd056a!8m2!3d50.4774458!4d4.1093346

Also Ypres maybe..
Not anymore parking is banned!!

Thanks on update. That's a real shame, it's was 2019 when we went.. stopped on way out and back, several vans.
Same as us, first and last stop.
Apparently the mayor put a stop to it🤬🤬

Our vet is in Mons so Strepy was only 10min away.
We stayed here last night after a trip to the vets, €5 a night or €1k with electric.
Probably better facilities than Strepy and loads of shops 5-10 min walk away.

Think is about Euro 5? Nice place to eat as well, but check days its open.

You have to pay as its a proper campsite, but is very reasonable. Lovely site but closes mid October I think.

Great campsite, but not free! One of the best I've been to near a big city.

Oh, just seen Coastal Cruiser has put up Peruwelz as well!

NO!!. one of our favourite stops. stopped there several times, cycled around the loop. went to tje market etc. I wonder what the Mayor's problem is - envy perhaps...

Just wondered if it was because people were not spending any money in thr village?
Cannot see it being about any mess as been there about 4-5 times and it’s always been clean!!

I think there are only 2 shops in the village and they always seem to be closed.

Yes, the little corner shop is open as been there a few times but the bakery has never been open apart from when we went over in May and I drove through a sign in thr village that must have said road closed as I got halfway down and there was a brass band playing and thr road blocked 😳😳
Had to reverse out🥵🥵

There are a fair few shops and bars over the back of Strepy as drove through there when thr village was closed, then over a 2.4m wide bridge🥵🥵

Amiens - Camping des Cygnes. Good bus routes into an interesting city. Boulogne-sur-mer on the coast

Bastogne - aire 5mins walk to town square
Ghent
De Panne - couple of coastal sites - probably places to overnight for free there
Ostende - as above
Gravelines - I'm backing chaser on that one

Bergues on your way to Gravelines, although we use it as last stop before Dunkirk ferry. No facilities.

Big Aire parking next to sports fields and green walks. Short walk through portal in old town walls into pleasant small town with good shops and restaurants.

We stayed there on 3rd September along with 5 x other MHs. Very peaceful. Someone on Camper Contact had a peaceful night there too on 18th September, ie, only 10 x days ago.

There was clear evidence that the huge concrete area had been used for something large recently, ie, an exhibition or display area perhaps, with evidence of drilling for anchor points, and lots of tractor/fork lift tyre marks.
Twice Police cars passed by, with no intervention from them at all.
I have read that overnighting is not permitted at the New Boat Lift, so maybe there is some confusion with that and the Old Boat Lift.

Think is about Euro 5? Nice place to eat as well, but check days its open.
We stayed there on Sunday gone. The Restaurant closed after business that day, for 2 x weeks staff holidays. Matey from the Harbour Master's Office comes round to collect the fees, ie, €5 without EHU, or €10 with.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Fumay. Just in France. River Meuse loops around the town. Beautiful view of the woods on the steep river bank opposite the free aire. No services though. Autumn good time to be there.

Just seems strange that it’s been removed from S4S and P4N and the last review on Camper Contract in September said it’s shut, seems you may have been one of the last to stay?

Mr Sandman will be gutted at loosing customers 🤤🤤

Bouillon is a lovely free stay with nice town and walks up in the woods. Big river (possibly Meuse cant remember)

On the Meuse are Bogny sur Meuse and the aforementioned Fumay. I think both are about 5 euros with leccy or something not preventative. The difference is Fumay you are nearly in the river (great view) with less space for sitting outside.

Givet, new aire so the parking opposite the castle is gone and it is 600 yards further into France. COvid when I was last there so unsure if charging.

Peruwelz already on your list. It is nice.

Estampuis and la maison de la canal is OK. Its free with dedicated parking 30 m from restaurant/bar/cafe next to a lock and canal cyclepaths. Nothing else there though.

Dinant is nice. Park 4night has an aire with a superb view but you have to message and book, worth it though.
Waterloo battle site worth a visit near Brussels
