As the title says.

I'm embarking on having a new LWB MAN TGE converted to my requirements and would like to hear your thoughts on Froli bed systems from personal experience.

The plan is that the bed will be a Project 2000 Smart Bed - Electric Lifting version, again does anyone have personal experience of these?

We've got Froli springs (blue and red) in our Hymer, and in our opinion they're excellent - very comfortable. 😊

Froli springs are great I fitted then in my last, the Hymer version of them in my current van are not as good as the Froli's.

No experance of the Project 2000 bed but my drivers step is Project 2000, Italian crap compared to Thule.

I had the Project 2000 bed and it was crap. I had to help it lift up as not enough power to run it and i had 200amp fully charged battery also had to keep resetting it

Froli springs are great but electric beds & especially the Project 2000 ones can be temperamental & may require manual resetting & even hand winding. It was a Funster on here (Spidey (y)) who contacted the Italian manufacturer to find out how to reset stuck beds when the UK dealers contacted were at a loss to know how to do it. Manual pull down beds seem to be much more reliable.

I made some for travelling and staying overnight in our people carrier.

We now have them slotted under the beds in our villa as spare guest beds.

Probably the most comfortable motorhome camper beds with a good matress. We also had this system in our la Strada nova M

We have the Froli system in our van and really happy with it. I've also fitted them in a few other vans and so far, no issues at all.

Not fitted the bed, but did build one with linear actuators that worked well.

Nice choice of van btw. I had a good look around one at the Overland show and loved it (y)

Thanks for the comments about the van, the down side is the lead time on new ones. I'm hopeful that ours will turn up about the end of June, it was ordered in August 2021. I've gone for most of the bells & whistles although not 4x4 (100mm loss in internal height), I also missed off traffic sign recognition as I didn't see its worth for the price.
I only wish my years weren't against building this one myself. I've learned over the past seventeen years that it takes four or five conversions minimum to get them near what you really want.

Yeah, ridiculous the order times on vans atm
Still, worth the wait I'm sure.

Out of interest, what sort of spec are you putting in?

Would recommend Seitz s7 windows if you haven't already sorted them. They are slightly curved, so follow the van shape much nicer. Just fitted some in a Sprinter and the quality is superb.

I assume you already have a builder lined up?

It's ordered as a Kombi, i.e. with normal windows in the front half of the rear with sliding openers (yes I know all about VW sliding window leaks) plus rear door windows. These will have blinds built into the lining panels.

The plan is an electric longitudinal bed in the rear with its low location a bit lower that many due to wife's slight difficulty in climbing into a higher bed. I'm not looking for higher rear storage space having come from LWB VW T4, T5 & T6 but the lifting bed is preferred for occasional goods transport.

Must have is four belted travel seats in a front lounge so swivel cab seats (ordered with the new base vehicle) as we love to sit with the sliding door open to view the world around us.

I have a long list of requirements but basically they include...

Sink, Two burner hob, Fridge, Heating & hot water, shower/toilet, under-slung water & waste, under-slung gas, maximised storage, good leisure batteries (not decided on type yet) with solar & B2B), two roof lights, etc, etc.

I think the comfort of the Froli system depends on the thickness of the mattress. I get the impression from pics that a 3" mattress is probably the optimum thickness.

We've got a 5" mattress. All I can say, it's a tad more comfortable than with the original wooden slats it replaced.

rod_vw Project 2000 electric bed:
Got one in a Rapido.2017 build.
Absolutely love it in terms of space efficiency.
Problems with the programming a plenty. Having written/ modified programs for PLCs i blame the programming for the bed losing its way regularly but i now have conditioned myself to use it in a particular way and it works with no problems in last 18 months. I think they have since modified the way it is used.(simplifying it) I have never had a problem with power moving it up or down. If there was a voltage issue i would just start the engine in the same way as you do when raising the roof on a bongo ( electric roof). I once had to move it up and down 8 times trying to reprogram it.

Same as the 1andonly.
Our project 2000 bed (Burstner Ixeo) 2016, is very comfortable, super space efficient and frees up masses of lounge area.
It has its moments, true, but I have had no problems bringing it up and down at all. He positives are huge, the negatives are minimal.
