Frigid - A lesson learned (1 Viewer)

While looking at the fridge vents over winter, I made the mistake of contemplating how to stop flies and assorted beasties getting in to the cavity to the rear of the fridge and decided to fit a very fine mesh to the ducts. Problem solved. However while away this past weekend in high temperatures at Battle, we noticed the fridge wasn't very cold and the freezer wasn't freezing. After some more contemplating I removed the mesh and solved the frigidity issue, or lack of, caused by myself!
The moral is leave well alone!! Also I've never found a fly in there anyway, it was only a perceived threat!!!

You may find in the winter the fridge will work better with the screens in or with vent covers installed.

I know my Thetford fridge says below 8c fit the vent covers....I’ve only just removed the top cover, but will be removing the bottom one next week when I go away again.

You have to use fly screens over the fridge & any other air vents here as otherwise you will have 00000000000000000's flies breeding. I use mosquito mesh but with extract fans on the top vent for the condenser.

I'll look at that as we will be exposed to the dreaded midge later on.
Are your extractor fans on continuously and are they 12v or low voltage computer type ones?

Where/how do you connect this to the van's power supply?

Behind the lower vent you will have the fridge power connections.....among them will be a 230v live, a 12v live for the fridge electronics,12v live for the 12v heater element and a D+ 12v live.

The 12v electronics live behind there is the easiest option.

How to connect to it would depend on how your cables terminate at the fridge.

Surprised there was no mesh as standard, every fridge we have had has had mesh in the grills.
Perhaps you used a too finer mesh.
