Our 18 year old Electrolux fridge is playing up again on gas! It works fine on electric but will light on gas but go out as soon as I release temperature dial. Can keep it pushed in 2 or 3 mins makes no difference. It started playing up a couple of years ago and it was suggested that it may be the thermocoupler so I fitted a new one which appeared to improve the situation. But it has been erratic.Tried it a couple of times last week at home,Fine now we are away it refuses to stay on.luckily we have mains hook up but next weekend we Havnt !Cant see new one with wheel arch cutout.any ideas? Or anyone who can look at it near Stratford upon Avon!

Sounds like the thermocouple is not far enough into the flame so not getting hot enough

Will get it out and take another look this week,I can’t remember how far it goes into the flame.i know the clamp allows it to be moved in or out!Not sure if I can do that through the vents or fridge out job.

Or the burner needs cleaning so you haven't a big enough flame¿ Or there is soot tracking between the igniter & burner earthing out?

Probably worth cleaning the jet, which is held in by pipe but only by air don’t use anything to clear it because it’s only thin metal.

What model is it. Our RM7 something doesn’t need one.
I had to rewire the cables coming out of the spark box on the back of the fridge.
press the connector and see if it stays on

Could it be time to invest in a new one? I know they are expensive but if you love the van and going keep it a while yet?

Bloody thing worked ok when I lit it last week! How far into path of flame should thermocoupler go?When it works!! It will stay lit for days!,

Does this fridge have a rotating knob for energy selection?
If so the thermocouple wiring might go through this switch.
Idea will be if you switch away from gas the switch will interupt the thermocouple wiring turning the gas off.
If the switch contacts are dirty in the gas position then the thermocouple circuit is not made and gas goes out as you release the button.
Some switch cleaner and a few rotations of switch might cure it.
Or your fridge might not be at all similar and the above does not apply..........

our fridge went through a faze of the ignition light flash, if I turned that off the flame stays alight and works fine.

7 years campers before that
take the thermocouple out of the flame warm it up with a blowlamp see if it locks in then its very unlikley that the thermo couple wiring goes through any switches
its a thermo electric gas valve the thermo couple will hold the pilot in even without an electrical input from the batteries have you cleaned the jet as suggested above? flame should be audible when its alight if you cant hear it roaring then the jet is blocked or the burner is full of crud did my sons recently and there was half a cup off debris in the burner

Hi , I have repaired very many of this type of fridge , the problem You have is familiar ! The normal cure is to replace the jet , clean and service the burner and flue assy , and make sure that the thermocouple is sitting in a nice bluish flame , usuall beneficial to replace the thermocouple as well .

If all the other suggestions fail it may well be the magnetic valve. I had the same problem on my Dometic which was solved by replacing the valve. Just be aware that the valves cost c.£3-4 direct from the suppler but you can be charged up to £65 from a MH/leisure specialist!

Check the jet, as crap drops down the exhaust tube onto the burner, it doesn’t take much to block. (y)

im a noob
Just a quick question...

My Electrolux ... When switching gas switch on, it flashes orange in time with ignitor for upto 10 seconds ( if I don't turn in and hold temp dial)
If I turn and hold in temp dial just after switching on... switch flashes/ignitor cracks for 2/3 seconds and stops...keep dial held in for 10 seconds and release and fridge works fine... However unlike the 12 and 240 switch the gas switch does not stay illuminated.

So I find myself periodically feeling at the outside vent for heat to make sure still running....

Another thing I have noticed that when on 240...The switch panel gets really warm which radiates into the top shelf on the inside door making it of no use...

Should light stay on???
