Whilst cleaning the outside of the MH I took the fridge vent off to get behind it.
I noticed the 240v plug is just a standard socket right behind the vent...Is this right? I'd expect something a bit more weatherproof as its right behind an open vent and could easily get wet if windy enough or using a hosepipe

I've just moved it left 5mm for now as it was rubbing on the piepwork. But probably going to look at something a bit more waterproof.

Yes the grille does let road spray in. I first put our fridge fan controller there but I've moved it now. I think our fridge has an in-line duraplug type connector.

They look like a lawnwmower type plug but 3 pin.. that might be an idea
I considered putting a weatherproof socket in but don't think there's enough room.

If the socket gets wet then the rest of your timber is in trouble.

And we are all in the same boat.

Is it the fridge that is plugged into it? As no way can that be installed by the manufacturer someone has put that in afterwards.

Yes the fridge is plugged into it, its on a very short lead. No signs of water on it but not happy with that setup. Definitely be changing it.

What do others have? is there anything missing to stop spray getting onto things or is it all just open to the elements like that

Water wouldn't get in so easy if the back box wasn't cracked and open at top left.
Just fit an inline plug and socket as mentioned

So it doesn't need a fuse at that end then. If thats the case will just get a Duraplug and do away with it

Actually this is more common than you might think, a lot of converters do it this way including a few continental builders.

Normally the fridge is wired straight back to the consumer unit.
Lenny, you are going to have to sit down before I tell you this .................

That is exactly how my Hymer's fridge is wired in (by Hymer) and in the same position.

Mind you the sockets is better quality then the one in the picture.

Sound like it's been messed about with in the UK. I have had a 2008, 2014 & 2017 Hymer all wired correctly back to the consumer unit.

Mine is identical but slightly higher. It won't get wet enough to cause a problem. And it is original.

Going to check those amazon ones out and do away with it for peace of mind

Only bought the MH mid March and working my way through all the previous owners bodges so still discovering things. Will no doubt be asking more questions soon

Thanks guys

My WildAx has fridge plugged in using domestic 3 pin plug & socket... but the socket is under the bed, so not accessible through the vent.
Just a question - if wired in directly to the consumer unit... is it not a problem if/when you need to remove the fridge for repair or replacement?

Mine has Waco plug & socket connectors underneath the fridge in the double floor. Still probably easier to disconnect at the fridge as you would have to take the plug off to get the cable through the grommet in the floor.

So not wired in directly - still a plug/socket albeit [arguably] a more appropriate style than a domestic three pin ;).

There is one minor advantage to my particular set up inasmuch, should I choose to, I can run the fridge on gas & use that socket for something else (y)...

In that case every 230 V item in a hymer is not wired in directly. They use Waco in line plugs in all the circuits.
