Fridge N/W on mains

Hi all. Been trying to get our fridge to work properly. It will fire up and chill on gas and 12v really well. But when hooked up to the mains, it is still trying to find another power source and the gas igniter clicks for about 30 seconds (it is an Automatic Energy Selector type).
Reading the thread below I wonder if it could be the 240 element as that person's was. How do we check that?

OHM meter on the disconnected element terminals.
A reading of 0 is a blown element.

OK that's the bit we wouldn't know how to do. Will call for The Big One to help. He's the wizz on electrics.
Thank you tho.
Will also check the 240v fuse that the instruction manual says is there.
