We are in Spain and plan to be away another few weeks.

Have been on electric for about 10 days without any problem. Today noticed the blue light flashing on fridge/freezer and the spanner icon.

Looks as though it is suddenly not working on electric. Turned it off and on a few times and no change. Turn it to Auto and it goes onto gas.

Have checked the fuse which is OK.

Is there anything else we can check?

Thanks

Steve

Sounds like the 230v heater element has burnt out.

You will need to isolate from the mains, identify which wires are from the 230v element & test with a multimeter. another possibility is the pcb though.
What make/model is the fridge? I wouldn't worry too much as it's still working on gas & 12v.

It`s a Thetford, large(ish) fridge with small freezer on top.

You are right, can probably manage on gas until we get home.

Thanks

many many years! since I was a kid
double check the trip for the fridge hasn't dropped, as its usually a different circuit to the sockets etc

otherwise could be the element or the control board, but because it works on gas more likely the element

Is that the trip switches near the fuse board?

Same problem as we had a couple of months ago. Had the element replaced but think they have fitted the wrong one as freezer not cooling fully. We are in Germany right now so it will have to go back again when we get home.

Given the age of your van I'd go with the mains electric element, ours went last year. Took me around three hours to change it.

Thanks for the replies, not much we can do till we get home then.

Anyone paid to get it changed and can give me a idea on the cost?

This seems to be a intermittent fault, over the last few days we have noticed on auto, it swaps between electric and gas.

Does this make it more or less likely that it is the element?
