Can anyone recommend a dealer/repairer in the Merseyside or surrounding area to diagnose my fridge fault please? The local one has told me I need a new fridge at a cost of £2250.00. It works on gas and 12v but not 240v.

Can't answer the question about repairer, but you are right to try elsewhere. A 3-way fridge has a coolant circuit, with pipes containing a mixture of liquid and gas. A small amount of heat (about 100 to 200W) applied to the lower corner makes the coolant mixture circulate and magically produce cooling. The heat can come from 12V, gas or 240V mains.

If it works on gas and 12V then the expensive bit - the coolant circuit - is working fine. Either there's a fault in the control board, the wiring or it needs a new 240V element.

A photo of the fridge, and of the detailed label inside, will help us to help you. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Do you need electric if mine went again I would just disconnect the mains as a gas bottle would keep a fridge going for a very long time

Thanks to all for your support. I've found a technician in Chorley who's talked me through the test process over the phone. The fridge is a Thetford N3175 model and we've established that there is an error code 8, there is 240v power to the fridge so he knows what the problem is, has ordered the part and will come out and repair sometime over the Christmas break. Very good service.

I'm waiting to get the work done, get the bill then go back to the Herberts who said I need a new fridge and get my £80.00 + vat diagnostic fee back. I'll post again when I have a result. All the best everyone.
