Hi all,
The above has been getting progressively worse, I removed the carbon deposit with white spirit but after a few days its starting back again and in a couple of weeks it will cover the size of a hand.
Does this indicate an issue with the jet, coked up exaughst etc. As it was not always a problem.
Any advise appreciated .
Steph

I assume you are using gas and if so it needs a service ASAP. (y)

Living the dream.
If your up to it dismantle the burner and blow the jet through with compressed air. Get a vac handy and a long handled bottle brush and brush the flu out sucking the carbon out of the bottom with the vac.
Don’t put anything through the jet as it will damage it.

That stain is an indication of incomplete combustion of the gas. Apart from the carbon that causes the stain it's producing substantial quantities of CO. As others have said have it serviced or service it yourself - sooner rather than later.

Thanks guys,
I'm away for another six weeks so will hole up somewhere and do it myself, made up a bottle brush out after an old coat hanger and a few bristles from a paint brush and have a new jet.
I've got a carbon monoxide alarm .
No vacuum so will bag the bottom of the exaughst above the burner that should catch the soot ok? I hope!

If white spirits can damage the paintwork, has anyone used an alternative ?
I've tried, surgical spirits, dishwash liquid and very fine cutting compound.?
All being well will tackle the job tomorrow

I assume it’s a Dometic absorption fridge. You may well know this but in case you don’t, there is a baffle that hangs by a wire in the upper part of the gas flue. Remember to remove it before shoving the bottle brush down the spout! The baffle is a short length of twisted metal sheet and its supporting wire hooks over the top of the flue pipe, under the angled section. Lift it out carefully.

Item H in the attached diagram.

Great feedback guys, I've finished the job and thanks, I didn't know about the baffle, there was not a great deal of soot in the exaughst but I did get a little out. What I did find was the small holes in the burner were all blocked, so thanks Funflaire, hopefully that will do it.
I've cleaned the stain off with dishwasher the best I can and will monitor it for signs, thanks for ref to XSN theonlysue, that was helpful too.
Thank you all again,
Steph

Thanks All,
Exaughst very clean now and fridge noticeably colder, I removed the carbon off the plastic vent by scraping it with a sharp knife and the off the body with a fine cutting/ buffing compound, a bit radical but it worked.

3 years on a STEEP learning curve
I don't move the van until I've serviced/ cleaned the burner unit on our fridge. Doesn't matter if I did it last week or last year. The van does not move until I know that the missus is safe. 7 minutes start to finish.
