Hi the sliding catch on our dometic fridge that locks it has broken. We're in La Linea opposite Gibraltar. Have tried to find one but no success. Does anyone know where we can get a replacement near here?
Sods law it's a holiday weekend. :( Any solution as to how we can keep the door shut while we're on the move appreciated.

You may be lucky and have the holes in the frame and door,if so just use a golf tee or similar, failing that a bungee the parts that have broken on your fridge are renowned for breaking and the last time I looked it was about £12 for a replacement

I think I know the part, if it is a Dometic. Most caravan and Motorhome dealers will carry this frequently broken catch. Expect to pay around €25. Sangers at Cartagena and Hispavan near Vera are the only two I know but Narbonne Accessoire (?) have agencies around Spain who should also carry this part. Perhaps your Dometic handbook will have a list of agents. Their main agent is in Granada.

Without a pic cant be sure but if its the same one that used to be on my old van..
Common to fail and they just keep going. In the end i gave up and there was a hole at the top, just used a small metal peg in there to keep it closed, added a chain and job done. :xThumb:

If you mean the useless plastic cover over the metal hook on a pivot I'd say forget replacement and shut it with a spoon or something. We got through three catches before we realised that it was pointless replacing them.

glad you are sorted, when mine broke I did buy a spare, (2 infact fitted one) the other we now keep in the freezer just in case, but forgot I had one when it broke again, but found the freezer door catch is identical but used upside down, took that off and used for the fridge, the freezer door on ours either doesn't fly open or locks with ignition, but even if it flew open there is never as much inside to damage

crap design, like the door pins which are not so easy to swap

I traced the outline of the plastic piece which breaks onto a thin sheet of aluminium, not difficult to do and works a treat.

I glued a piece of small bore pvc tubing to the plastic housing of the catch in alignment with the spigot of the catch. Has lasted for over four years.

Thanks all you amazing funsters. We like the tube idea @nomade690 for now we're just going to use the spoon system. Actually it's good because you can see if the catch has caught on right.
