I'm sure we must have done something because I think they were draining separately when we first got our Ace Capri (2003) last year, but now when we drain the grey water, all the fresh water also drains out through the same tap. There is a separate bung the other side of the van to drain the fresh water separately but we can't see how to stop it going out the waste water tap - which is just an on / off, not a 3 way tap. Help please! we don't want to have to refill every time we drain the grey water. Thanks

I'm sure we have 2 tanks and there is certainly 2 drains - one a tap and the other a bung so I don't see how they can drain out together but I have just watched from inside (through the hatch in the floor) all the fresh water disappear when they waste water tap was opened

I'm also a bit baffled here. The only connection between your fresh and grey tanks should be through the shower drain/sink drains after of course the water has been pumped through the tap first! I don't know of a single van where there is a direct connection between a fresh water and a grey water tank?? Are you sure that you aren't opening the boiler drain valve accidentally? In our van the grey dump valve and the boiler dump are situated very close to each other.

Did you watch the level in the grey tank to see if that was also draining?

Could you maybe take a photo of the various valves and label it?

It’s worth having a look under your motorhome and you should see the pipe run from both the waste and fresh water tanks. The only way I can think this could happen is if 12 volt dump valves have been fitted like on many later Motorhomes and and a short is happening.

If that's the case, a test would be to leave the grey tap open and fill the fresh. If it dumps straight out, there's an issue.

When draining stick a container under the water flow under the van.... You'll know if its fresh or waste by the colour and smell.
I can't see any way the two tanks have combined unless the plumbing has been altered.
My opinion is you're draining the fresh tank only.

Unless someone has made some major alterations to your van, you won’t be draining your clean water with your grey. The only thing connected to your grey tank is the waste pipes from sink, basin, and shower, the wires for sensor, and the drain pipe. To empty your clean water tank you either need to run taps, so water will go not grey tank, pull the drain plug in the clean tank, open a drain valve or have your frost valve in the open position. The only other thing that I can think of is some have an option to drain to a certain level for travelling lighter.

Have you got, and checked your frost valve?

Unusual problem, now I'm wondering what the outcome was #Harrietliberty ?
