Not long enough!
I've just received one at my home address in uk, whilst I'm abroad.
55kph in 50kph zone.

Daytime in torrential rain and bad visabilty. Watching the road rather than my speedo.
I've just paid it to save any problems.

Where do the french get your name and address from?

My log book says my full name, Susan.

The speeding ticket is addressed to Sue. Any ideas???

Snap. I think I got caught too but not sure. I was following speed on the Garmin and not speedo. Do the cameras flash twice or once ? I think they get the info from DVLA

How much was the fine and theres no penalty points right?

Oh dear oh dear Sue, torrential rain and bad visibility, and you were speeding.......you were lucky to get a ticket......off to the guillotine I say??

Sounds like a scam to me. Your name and address should be exactly as recorded by the DVLA.
Would have thought so..BUSBY.

Have you ever registered elsewhere with "Sue" ?
French emissions sticker ,Dartford crossing payments/account ,etc?

Does your e mail address use Sue or Susan, perhaps picked up from there?

If the ticket is genuine then you were actually doing 60kph in a 50kph area in heavy rain and bad visibility.

Well over the limit in bad conditions - that's naughty.

Get it paid.

?

How do you know she was doing 60?

The op stated 55kph in a 50 kph zone.

There's a 5 kph 'allowance' (under 100 kph, above that it's 5%), so if someone is being 'done' for 55 they were actually doing 60. The letter should make this clear.

I got flashed by a speed camera yesterday on the way to Saumur,so will wait and see if I receive a fine?

Nope!

55kms/h means she was minimum at 56 so one km/h over the 5 allowed! 50 + 5 + 1
But it could have been 57 or 58 or 59 ....!Raining doesn't change the speed when in town, unless specified
When on roads it goes down to 80 if it was 90 and on motorways from 130 it drops to 110

Bad weather more of a reason to stick to speed limits, people buy these powerful vans and have no regard for the law, that’s a full 10% over and above the limit,
Never mind all the excess fuel you are wasting and abroad why!
Maybe buy a 2CV of something more Eco friendly
AND SAVE THE PLANET!!!!

Do you have a crit d'air?

Where does all this 5% allowance come from, having recently done a speed awareness course:angel: on this course we were told due to the improvement in equipment 2 miles an hour over any speed limit and you will be done. I WAS 3 in a 30

Where does all this 5% allowance come from,
Sorry but it is not 5% . It is only 5 kms over the speed limit. So if you're allowed 130kms then you'll get fined at 136 . Still ok at 135. Where does it come from .... Errr how to say ... French Law would be a good reason to you? I don't take laws out of my pocket to upset, but just because it is the law in my country.

You will note I was speaking about an English speed course and I have seen many posters talking ofn5% allowance

It's 5% at speeds over 100 kph (for a fixed camera). See https://www.antai.gouv.fr/avis-contravention?lang=en

The letter shows three speeds - the limit, the speed you were actually recorded at, and the speed they are using for the fine, after the 5 kph or 5% allowance is taken off.

So if you are being fined for 55 kph in a 50 kph limit, the letter will show that is the "speed used" - "la vitesse retenue". The letter will show that the measured speed was 60 kph, they take the 5 kph allowance off that and use 55 kph for the purposes of the fine.

I just won a ticket, actual speed 56kph adjusted speed for fine 51kph cost 90 euros or you can try play games and it goes up to 135 euros after two weeks or wait even longer and an even bigger fine. Or, just ignore it, and if your stopped over here again ....... deep doo doo. There are always choices

In the case of the OP it is then only 5 kms, not in % . The way you're calculating is just different from mine. I add first what I'm allowed to go up to, so if 50, it's 55 then the rest is the reason why I'm fined. Now I have never been caught over 130kms hence I wasn't aware it was changing after 100kms /h. Tricky to me , as you don't go calculating and driving and not speeding all at the same time . as it's not much more allowed, I'll stick to the 5 allowed, .... will make me feel ok!
EDIT : I always set my GPS on 128kms/h so I make sure my GPS will warn me if I'm just about to over speed

Yes, that's what I said earlier :)

I agree with what you're saying there, you can do 55 in a 50 limit without getting fined. I'm just trying to explain where Keith (correctly) got his 60 kph actual speed figure from, that's the measured speed and hence 55 kph is the speed they used for calculating the fine. If Sue had been doing less than 60 kph, then the speed used would have been less than 55. Perhaps Theonlysue could confirm the figures from her letter?
