My son (honestly) recieved a letter from France today containing a fine for doing 115kph in a 90kph somewhere around Paris. The offence took place on 25 August last year and the fine is €45.

So it looks like when the cameras flash on the roads in France they are now following up on pursuing the registered owner with the fine. The Dartford crossing people do the same for non payment of the toll charge so I guess they're all swapping our car registration details with one another these days.

Bargain, tell him to get it paid quick, we know of people stopped and fined 100€ for less over the limit on a peage

Sounds like a good deal to me too, get it paid pdq.

Your "son" has got a very light fine. Get "him" to send it off sharpish. I believe it is up to a year they can send you him the paperwork but a NIP is required within 14 days for us in our country.
There have been horrendous stories of costs involved - I think Portugal was the worst

Pay it now to protect his credit rating, naffing about will only make it more expensive.
A few years back I was chased for a £700 speeding fine incurred six months earlier in Norway. So £40 seems a bargain.

Why dont you tell them that “ you MAY be dealing with EU fines after 29th March differently, and that the fine may have to be on parchment after that date to be valid if there is a no-deal Brexit”
You also expect it to take “ 28 working days to process” ( thats about 6 months in France)
:D

As in the uk you can ask for photographic evidence, at least it will prove that it is not a scam.

Not always from France. No photographic evidence is required, if a Gendarme says you are speeding ... you are speeding. We don't have the pretty lines on the road with two photos timed with the proof of distance between the two photos.

Ok ... first of all, do not rely on "french being lazy with red tape" . Fines job is done within a ... flash!
Pay it straight away as it goes up very quickly!!!! If you have troubles understanding the how and what on the form , let me know, I'll help you with it.

Amicalement

As long as it gives you the link to www.amendes.gouv.fr and not any other ones, it's the official one.
EDIT: @tuscancouple If any doubt, send it to me via the forum and I'll check for you

I have heard of other police states.

But what happens if one contests the Gendarme's evidence in court? Does the prosecution not have to produce other evidence or will the Court just take the police evidence at face value?

@nicholsong YESSSS , deffo!!!!!!

With their flashing machine they will have pics of you, car with registration on, date and time. What else could you want if a judge?
It would be difficult to prove that you and your car were somewhere else, wouldn't it?
