Hi Top
Exp
since 2006
Hi Funsters, are any of you touring France, if so what is the situation like in terms of sites, toilets, washing facilities etc, also supermarkets and shops how are locals behaving? I am only asking as we are hoping to go for a month in September, and as I am 80 {just) I have to be a bit careful. Keep safe

We’ve been here five days, currently an hour south of Bordeaux on the coast. We’ve visited three aires, one supermarket, several fuel stops and visits to local shops.
Feel 100% safe, more comfortable than being in the UK. Everyone wears masks where required. We haven’t seen a single person behaving inappropriately. Everywhere seems a bit cleaner than usual.
I’d say it’s the same old France, only with face masks and less Brits. Perhaps slightly less busy than normal.
Plenty of other nationalities holidaying.
At this moment, I can see no reason not to visit...

We're living in France and doing a fair amount of touring at the moment. Masks are obligatory most everywhere and everybody seems to do so. Inland there are a lot of french vans about, Aires campsites seem to have plenty of space, restaurants are busy but not full in the week though at the weekend we've been turned away. Seen TWO British vans in 6 weeks the border has been open.

We have just received an e-mail from our friends who own a Campsite in France.

They are “fully” open, but their communal TV/WiFi room is closed, as are the Boules area, trampoline and “bouncy castle”.

Masks must be worn when visiting reception and the sanitaires, and when entering their Pizzeria, although they can be removed when sitting at the table.

Their swimming pool is open but chairs and sun loungers have been removed. Showering before entering is mandatory.

That will not interfere too much with our holiday, (unless Mr. Macron bans Brits, as our CV infection rate is 2.5 times that in France).

Stay away from the coast and cities and you ll be fine.

there is a thread i started on 14th June which was obviously going over against the FCO advice but a number of people followed over and all gave their opinions. 27 pages worth of info, micky taking, photos, panic, etc It might be worth a read as it is a number of opinions from different people and I think it will allay some concerns.

Been in northern France a few days. Attractions mostly open but very quiet and pleased to see you. Some require you to reserve online before you arrive, most don’t.

Sites open with few restrictions - facilities all open but cleaned muck more frequently. Some sites ask you to use own facilities if possible to lighten the burden of cleaning I think
Masks in all shops and observed 100%.

No problems we live just outside Royan and have been away three times in the last five weeks zero problems, space on campsites, everything running near normal with certain distance/mask restrictions in place. That said, best stay in GB, it's lovely here without the crowds. Try Soulac in the Verdon, beautiful.

You are so lucky, we are in Saint Romain de Benet, it’s a wonderful aire in a very pretty village. We are wondering where to head next we have a little rescue dog who loves the beach. Had a fantastic couple of weeks in La Tremblade, great cycling and beaches.

It’s all good safe as you want it to be take masks sanitizer and be mindful of yourself and others, as said before seems less busy and safe👍🏻

If the population of anywhere is going to act responsibly, it’ll be France.
I’m fed up with the me, me, me of the UK and started looking at French property for sale tonight. Wish I’d never left. ( it’s been very bad day)

We’ve been in France for over a week now. Some aires are full - Stella Plage so we ended up in Berck, and Plage du Vivier (Biscarrosse Plage) but we went in anyway and found a spot (the guy said we could) - but things are very calm and everyone is very welcoming. As someone has said, there are loads of other Europeans over here.

Been in France now for 3 weeks around the Limousin and now in Burgundy. Have only seen 1 GB van mostly French and Belgium and a few Dutch. Sites and aires do seem quieter but, no problems, people wearing masks where they should, feel safer here than in the UK.

In Epernay where there are about 10 spaces which filled by 1800hr been e or 4 previous nights but the weekend, an influx of separate Belgians and some cycling Brits has seen the change.
Was in a big Carrefour at 1200hr on Friday and there was no queue for the tills although that did give the operator time to go and have a natter as we de-trollied. No need to separate in store as so quiet.

Where do you get that stat from? I thought France was getting over 1000 infections a day whilst we were hovering around the 600 mark. And we test more.

Must be a separate link for this but here goes anyhow; any feedback on Personal Travel Insurance that covers Covid - for policies that are about to be renewed? I know some here are relying on the reciprocal arrangement with the Medical Card but that isn't valid now, some don't have any travel cover but...And some think they can make a dish to the the port if they get it...! With new breakouts in several areas of France and Spain now I would be unsure about funding a month or two on a ventilator in an intensive care ward in France/Spain. Is there not a check at customs that you have sufficient cover?

I got it from the fount of all wisdom......... my wife!

She read it on an internet news channel yesterday, but cannot recall which one.

Having checked for myself this morning the figure I found for the U.K. is 770, so it looks as though you may be nearer the mark.

Will you tell her, or shall I?

My recently renewed travel doesn’t include COVID-19 medical costs but does cover cancellations and so on that are related to Covid (we can claim refunds if our bookings are cancelled, although I’m certain the sites will roll over to next year).
We also have valid EHiC cards, I haven’t seen anything that says they won’t cover us (I am regularly reviewing the latest info).
It’s reported that the overwhelming majority of recent cases are at meat processing plants, large indoor family gatherings and groups of young people (which is understandable, nightlife is still happening, if I was a French teenager I would certainly be participating ).
Based on the above, I’m happy to take my chances, in France at least. Our later visit to Spain remains under daily review. Spanish campsites are still very keen to welcome us but I need to be happy before travelling.

Yes the EHiC card and agreement is valid until 31 12 20. Cancellations of trips because of Covid is not significant but it is the cover of potential treatment costs I was interested in which could be significant.

Where do you stand with the ehic card if admitted to hospital before 31/12 but your stay runs into January? I assume after 31/12 you will not be covered?

Just cancelled the tunnel. was going to Belgium and Holland for a month. Too much hassle to book sightseeing and both in our 70's not prepared to take the risk. I'm wondering whether I'll be able to get my Tesco points back.

We did when the lockdown was imposed and our crossing at the end of March had to be cancelled.

However, that was a decision enforced by the Government’s restrictions. If it is your own choice to cancel they may not refund them. If not, contact the Tunnel and move your booking as far ahead as possible. If things improve you can bring it forward again. The Tunnel is usually pretty good in that respect.

Been in Brittany for a week.No problems.Ferry capacity greatly limited and loads of space to remain distanced.Aire at Caen was 3/4 full.Only saw a handful of Briits on the way over to Vannes and only 2 others on site

We’ve been travelling Europe since 21st June. France, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. In south of France now. Sites have everything open, pools, sanitary blocks, restaurants, shops etc. The only place they ask you to wear your mask is in shops or reception areas. All good so far, busy but have seen very few English on our travels, mainly Dutch, German and Swiss.

Almost everything is open and everybody is sticking to the rules social distancing and wearing masks in shops, amenity blocks and receptions.
