Isn't making it more difficult for illegals to cross the channel one of the demands of Brexit. You cant have your cake and eat it…..

We got through a couple of days ago in seconds, French border control waved us through without even looking at our passports.
You must have all looked suspicious!

Doing their job properly or deliberately holding people up?
There is a difference.
Does anyone know what they actually do when they look at your passport?

They check it's you, check the database of people of interest and if all ok let you through.
As we are entitled through the EU to free movement it is quite easy, you don't have to explain why you are travelling.
I expect after Brexit it will take a lot longer, also being eu and non eu queues.

"s it should be all the time .... not when it takes their fancy."

I expect after Brexit they will pick random people out to look at more closely, on both sides of immigration.
Don't complain it's what the majority voted for, securing our borders.

There have been several FOI requests to the Border Force asking what they check when looking at your passport. The Border Force refuse to say what they look for as it is restricted and not for public release, though you are probably right in what you suggest.
With the loss of access to European security information, which will happen after March, I think all travel to and from the UK will be delayed at borders.

As had been said, probably enhanced security. A few years back after some bomb explosions in Paris it took me an hour and a quarter to cross the Belgium/France motorway border. Only bright side they found a roll of exposed film I thought I'd lost

I always thought they checked photo against face :xwink: but electronic now.

I really don't care how long passport checks take if it adds to the security of travelling and for all of us. Tbh I think it's rather churlish of some to whinge about others preserving our security when we live in such difficult times.

I won't mind much about prolonged passport checks, as long as it really does mean improved security.

Makes you wonder how many databases they use for checks and what stuff is kept on there that you aren't allowed to know. :xeek:

It will much better when we get our new French passports, they'll just look and laugh.

I went on a day trip. (booze cruise) a couple of weeks back. They were checking everything and had lots of questions, where we'd been, when we came out. Asked if we had any illegals stowed in the boot but didn't look even though I invited the lady to inspect the 150L of wine in the back of the Land Rover.

Won't be allowed so much wine after Brexit me thinks.

What makes you think it will be so much longer.... or.. are you scaremongering.. (ithought views on Br3xit were not supposed to be on here.
I do recall before all this EU cr@p .. going to France wasn't that hard... or didn't you go then?

You would be surprised how much info they obtained from a passport , to the untrained eye very little . By scanning it U.K. side ,a lot , my friend got questioned why so many visits , outside U.K. , etc . I love watching the sniffer dogs going about their work , even the dogs looking for cash !!!! I rather the hassle than all the undesirables getting into the U.K.

I'm a pessimist. But hope to be wrong.

Was just going to say that, once we are out controls of imports from trips, amount of goods both monetary value and restricted amounts

All the electronic bit does it bring up your data.
When going through an airport passport control using the unmanned one you present your passport chip.
This brings up your data to a person on a computer, there is a camera in the turnstile, so he checks your data, checks your face and if ok presses a button to let you through. Much quicker as the passport checker is presented with the info on his screen.
Biometric passport sounds impressive and potential for more checks and info but in reality only a normal basic check in the euro passport control
Are you good
Is it you
Let you through.

Never any stops at customs either.
Ports are a bit more suspect as smuggling is common so the customs staff have to be a bit more vigilant so expect more conversation and possibly more checks.

It might do when the UK government stops paying pensions to overseas expats. :xrofl:

Yeah right...

So you still think the UK government can actually DO stuff?

(I'll be dead by then.)

JJ
