I just seen the weather forecasts for the weekend and where we are in the Alsace it's going to be -2 overnight Saturday. It seems that the rest of France is also going to be very cold over the weekend. Having never been out in the van in the winter I don't know what to expect. I imagine the boiler frost stat will trip and its probably best to drain down the taps for the night as well. Not your average weather for May

Just run the heating (including hot water) overnight. It will be fine. No need to drain anything. :)

Switch the water pump off then it it does tip the safety valve you won't empty all your water out.

Sound's like a good idea - just wondering how much gas I have in the bottle.

We’ve just arrived in Colmar from Luxembourg on our way to Greece, can’t believe how cold and wintery it is here. We will be dashing south into Italy and hopefully sunshine as soon as.

Hope the weekend isn’t too cold for you.

If you have had the heating on in the van during the evening there will be enough latent heat in the van to stop it dumping.

Wintered the beast from the east... out in the sticks....
Left heating on at 10 (cool when ya wake up ) but no water loss (y)

Heard it starting n’ stopping thru night...

We're in Luxembourg tonight. It's not too bad. We're heading to the Vosges de Nord national park over the next few days and it looks like it'll drop below freezing... we've got an extra blanket stashed for such emergencies. Heating will be on low all night.

Just think yourself lucky you are in a van. This weekend south coast temps could be just above freezing overnight and I'll be stuck in a tent  What a difference a year makes - last year we were breaking hottest ever records :(

Thanks for that weather info. I'll be on the ferry to Dieppe in the morning so I've just thrown another duvet in.
I have been watching the forecasts so expected a bit o' chill, but .........? :(

Don't rub it in you rotter.

I'm off to Belgium Sunday evening to get the air suspension fitting then going to troll around northern France for 5 or 6 days before coming home.
All on me todd as the boss is in Bangkok.

I'll be around Albert and then Amiens from tomorrow til Tuesday. Only away for 5 days so don't have time to go further South but it seems it wouldn't be much warmer if I did.

I'll be in Belgium getting the van sorted until Wednesday or Thursday. Using the Tunnel this time as Goldschmitt are paying due to the cock up in March.

Nothing much changes!
Last year, on 30th April, we left La Mailleraye-sur-Seine in heavy snow.
Things did improve after that, thank goodness. :)

Richard.

We've been 7 weeks in Spain and France still using the winter duvet We've had a few warm days but a lot of cold nights

We've been in Normandy and Brittany the past week and it's been pleasant, but it's now definitely the getting cooler. @Spriddler we're just south of Dieppe in Neufchâtel en Bray and it is currently foggy!

We are at an unpronoucible place called Nuncq-Hautecôte in northern France, here for one more night. It’s a beautiful aire with electricity so we are very cosy. Heading a bit further south tomorrow. Maximum temperature today is 11 degrees apparently.

+1 for running the heating system and hot water over night. No need to drain down if its in use. If you do drain down its a bugger to get it going again as you have to wait till the boiler heats up sufficiently to prevent the auto dump frost valve from kicking in.
We often use ours in cold frosty conditions. If we are going to move to a different spot I usually switch off the power to the water pump and leave the boiler ticking over on the setting where it doesn't require water in the system. That prevents all your water being dumped while you are on the road.
Good luck.

At Périgueux , been great for last few days temps in low 20's.. night times bit chilly. Looking tops around 14c this weekend then warming up again..

9 degrees last night in Brittany, sunny now and 14 degrees.
Just about to get the mower out to cut 4 weeks of growth on the lawn.

I got sunburnt on Tuesday near Freiburg.
Eguisheim last night no overnight heating required.
Heading towards Geneva so it might be a matter of altitude. Was thinking Les rousses but now need a b plan.
Mulling it over at at hypolite

We are on the way to Greece via Switzerland and Italy. We enjoyed the tail end of the heatwave when we left and it lasted until Lucerne. Its been mixed since then, although the day we visited Rome was glorious. Just left Pompeii for the east coast where it looks a bit warmer and sunnier, in the low 20’s.

It is the opposite for us...we found the Spanish nites cooler with the heating on overnite ..mainly for our furkins ...but once we arrived in France no overnite heating has been required now lol ..
