Pity they didn't do that when the bl**dy Germans were advancing...........
A tootles classic :D

The French actually built an underground trench system (still fighting WW1) consisting of about 20x30mm ish guns...well it seems like that, cost millions to make and ended at Belgium :Eeek: (the country the Gerries went through in the last war). And the gerries ....well they went round the back of it and bought up some proper big Krupps mamas and blew the crap out of it. Nice plan Mr Maginot

It stretched all the way to Toblerone Land...........And most of it is still there. I have been down into some of the forts, six levels below ground. The biggest guns were 150mm.

Did the Schoenenbourg line a few weeks a go, so much building and technology for so few guns. I don't think the weak fortifications amounted to much, hence why the Gerries cut through them and got behind the stronger ones.

On paper, the French had the strongest army in the Western World, however, nearly all their soldiers wore Adidas running shoes instead of boots. (y)

Here are two different links giving you the main places where you might have troubles.
One place it is impossible to go through right now is : Bassens access to the Bordeaux Port.
You don't really need translation, just pick up the towns. Funnily nothing around my place.... they must have changed their mind !

Been doing some pruning at the static van so decided to take the trailer to the dechetterie at Guerande and call and see if I could top up with fuel.

First part went to plan, dechetterie open no problem, drove to Intermarche at La Baule big queues, I am not one for q'ing so abandoned that one.

Decided to go to Bricoman at Immaculee, St. Nazaire for some gravel whilst I had the trailer on, this is next to a Leclerc and almost no Q......result?.......No!!........No Diesel!!

Bought 4 bags of gravel from Bricoman and after Q'ing for 45 mins, one girl on the checkout in the builders yard, eventually managed to pay.....'plus ca change' there then......no wonder builders charge a fortune here(apart from being 'artisan' of course) they must spend half the day in the builders yard.

So panic buying, lots filling containers, shortages of fuel in the St.Nazaire area, don't think it would be any different in the UK.

Fortunately I have enough fuel for about 300 miles thanks to the 120l tanks on the Globecar and we won't be going very far for a couple of months.

We filled with diesel at casino supermarket near St Jacques this morning. No queue to speak of, some filling containers. We commented that UK would be far worse in circumstances.

Off topic @matamoros how nice is Guerande? We were there yesterday and it far exceeded our expectations. One to visit again.

Guerande is a very pretty town, touristy obviously but there are enough reasonably priced eateries etc to make it a regular on our trips out, we can cycle there from our static quite easily.

They have a 'Fete Medieval' every year which is well worth a visit, 4th and 5th June this year.

Have you explored the rest of the 'Presqu'ile'.... Le Croisic, Batz sur Mer, La Turballe Piriac and the place that led us to buy a static in this area, Quimiac/ Mesquer. A small site there called 'Le Praderoi' is 50m from the Plage de Lanseria, not cheap but a lovely location, there is also a free aire without facilities next door but that would not be our favourite aire in the vicinity of which there are lots.

Our favourite area of France.... but we are biased:)

Right now Toulouse and its outskirts don't seem jammed up. I know strikers are in Toulouse centre , but I've come back home a few minutes ago and nothing to worry about on the periphérique.
I'll let you know later this evening if anything has changed. Right now.... I'm off again. Staying online though if any question or anyone stuck. I can still offer a shelter, just don't expect me to have anytime for socialising, even if I'd love to!

The main picture on one of the links that @yodeli posted earlier was of strikers/pickets at the refinery at Donges which is just next to St. Nazaire........maybe the locals know something we don't:)

Sorry I came back a bit too late yesterday for an update.

I haven't noticed anything like blocus or huge traffic jams yesterday, and I've been next to centre of Toulouse. So I guess it's mainly on motorways or in the centre of big towns.

I 've seen lots of queuing at petrol stations though.
News reporter also said it should not last more than a week..... to be checked....lol !

Stopped Heric (Pays De Loire) this morning to get propane (praise be to Google translate!!) and there were queues at filling station, presumably because of the possible shortages. Luckily we filled up yesterday. Although we thought we'd make our way back up to Calais over the next 2 weeks we just couldn't resist a quick trip to Champtoceaux. So pleased we did, have just arrived at Aire which is the viewpoint car park. No direct view over Valley from carpark but a short stroll and wow!! Even though it is persisting down at the moment, the view is breathtaking and the Aire is FREE!

Driven from Sancoins to Roanne this morning, about 150km.
Filled with fuel at a deserted Carrefour fuel station and didn't see anyone waiting at the other fuel stations we passed.
All seems quiet in this part of France.

Richard.

How is it that with all the anarchy that goes on in France on these occasions, WE are still the most Unpopular members of the EU. They all hate us ((but they all want to come here)).
This may give a Gee-up to the Brexit campaigners.
Well done Frankie (Yodelli) you are a little Gem !! No, NOT the lettuce !!
Good luck to all of you in lovely France.
Mitch.

What do you base your hate opinions on Mitch? take a read of this article asking Germans of their opinion. They just read like straightforward common sense grown up views from another country to me... And having spent 15 years in and out of France and another 5 years in other EU countries I'm afraid I can't agree with your hate opinions. Maybe it's just the British media trying to get a slant on whatever grabs the headlines as usual or even not understanding how other countries work and going for the sound bite cheap shots?
