I think I usually have a good sense of humour but honestly some comments are going too far and I feel upset. Not going to read this thread anymore. I wonder how you would react if some cheeky French on a French forum with only one constant english member (and you are that person) were putting all the Brits in the same basket giving them names .... don't forget , each person is different, and as someone said there are arseholes everywhere. Thanks . Goodnight all !
It's for exactly this reason that 'some' Brits experience perceived rudeness from some French people. We cringe every time we go shopping as without fail there's at least one group bellowing across the aisles, often f'ing & blinding. A large percentage of those moving here seem hell-bent on eradicating the wildlife and polluting the ground & water-table with vinegar & salt against the weeds, and by paying a neighbouring farmer to empty their fosse instead of getting a proper company in with the right equipment for the job... ...

Can't see why a farmer's tanker is any different than a "proper company"

A myth among expats here is that a septic tank must be emptied every four years. Emptying is a misnomer - accumulated un-broken-down sludge can gather over a period of years and reduce the efficiency of the system. People then have their fosse literally emptied., and often powerwashed, which destroys the system. it'll take a couple of months for the bacteria to reproduce to a level where they can start doing their job. A vidange company has a truck with two compartments - liquid contents of fosse is pumped into one tank, the sludge into another compartment, then the liquid, which contains the bacteria, is pumped back into the fosse enabling it to recover in a very short time. If sewage is strewn over fields the water-table will end up polluted - the whole point of having a fosse is to protect health and the land. If the practise continues it'll be like living in the middle of a sewage farm.

When I was still farming I used to empty most of the septic tanks in this village with an agricultural tanker, never had any complaints, don't know about every four years though, most wouldn't be emptied till they were running over, some havent been emptied for donkeys years, but most are on the mains now, but quite a few say septic tank never been any trouble why pay rates on mains.

Do agree with you though on this fosse thing, we went into it when we were thinking of buying there, it can cost as much as buying a broken down place just to put one in and must be a big drawback in selling doer uppers.

Slight to minor!
The main environmental damage done by campervan and motorhome owners is using blue formaldehyde toilet fluid, regardless of where it is desposed of.

No one should ever use blue toilet fluid.

We should start a campaign to stop places selling the wretched stuff, it's one of the most toxic chemicals around and people literally throw it into 'proper' receptacles that plays havoc with the ecology and gets into the water supplies and aquifers.
