Hi - does anyone have very up to date experience of this border? I gather the Schengen has been temporarily suspended and customs is vigilant. As a consequence Michelin shows a 10km congestion.
Is there any point in taking the D601 through Dunkirk? I'll be in 5ton MH on way to Brugges Thursday.

We were there at the weekend. There was a huge tailback on the A16 so we went along the back roads where they were also checking passports.

Likewise was driving from Belgium into France late at night (last week) and all traffic was diverted without any real warning to a roundabout on the French side and random vehicles were pulled out for checking as we all negotiated the traffic island back on to the m'way. Noticed even longer tailback from France into Belgium for the same checkpoint. That was the only real checks we observed in France, Germany, Belgium and Holland

Same today for us heading for Aachen, delays but no passport checks as such.

We came from Pont a Mousson to Brugge last Monday. There was about a half kilometre tailback to the border, a bit slow moving and we weren't stopped.

Went from France to Belgium this morning, was diverted off the A16 but not stopped. Didn't see anyone get stopped.

Yes. Can report that A16 they direct you off to a roundabout just before the border where a few bored police/customs check you against a colour chart ;-)
Total delay around 45 minutes
Absolutely no problem taking MH through tunnel and cite Europe.
They are putting up heavy barriers further along autoroute and on bridges over the autoroute.
A few gentlemen from the south wandering by the side but no drama seen as yet.

Last weekend France to Belgium delay about 30 minutes, police pearing out of portacabin window at roundabout but no one outside.
Yesterday Belgium to France delay less than 5 minutes about 4 or vehicles in front of us they stopped a white van man and a minibus. By the time we got there police were checking paperwork.

Interesting a Folkestone on the way out there was a British police check, slowing things down, we were only stopped us for a short time. Other were there for longer, they asked us how many in vehicle? who owns vehicle? how long have you owned it? how much money do you have on board?

Without operation stack, Kent police have time on their hands. If they were serious they would have automated the check between vehicle ownership and the API.

Came back across the border yesterday afternoon and it was clear in both directions - not a police officer in sight

I came through from Brugges to chunnel 2 weeks ago and there was nothing, nowt, zilch on the autoroute. Free flow all the way.
Only sign of issues is the 15' metal fence on the side of the motorway and on the bridges. Also no wanderers around Cite Europe. All VERY quiet. In fact the tunnel operative welcomed me with "Glad you have arrived, I'll inform the train driver". Drove from the back all the way to the front of the train.

Can't see the Cite Europe surviving on the footfall that was there then.

I'd certainly have no hesitation in taking the tunnel these days, but would not use the ferries between around 4pm and 8am.
