- Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
It has been an odd sort of week here in Ayrshire, mainly due to a huge forest fire at Loch Doon which is about 2miles from my home.
Helicopters had to be brought in to fight the vicious flames which were exacerbated by very dry conditions & strong winds but, I'm very pleased to tell everyone that the fire is out now.
Despite Loch Doon being just a few miles from my door it is still one of my favourite wilding zones. It can be busy at times but, it is still very easy to find peace & solitude.
The Loch sports a nice basic campsite with mains hookup with water & waste disposal but, sadly no loo block yet.
There is a cracking little café at the Dalmellington end of the loch, the owner is a good friend of mine, there are camera's to observe a very close by osprey nest & the nest can be seen by the naked eye from the café.
Toilet facilities are provided for customers only but good on the hoof food is plentiful.
I was browsing through You tube & came across this nice wee video with shows the loch as I see it, the video is not mine but is at one of my many wilding spots.
Why don't you visit us sometime? The whole of Dumfries & Galloway & most of Ayrshire is motorhome friendly & unlike the NC500 the locals will welcome you with open arms, go on you know you want to.
