Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
It has been an odd sort of week here in Ayrshire, mainly due to a huge forest fire at Loch Doon which is about 2miles from my home.
Helicopters had to be brought in to fight the vicious flames which were exacerbated by very dry conditions & strong winds but, I'm very pleased to tell everyone that the fire is out now.

Despite Loch Doon being just a few miles from my door it is still one of my favourite wilding zones. It can be busy at times but, it is still very easy to find peace & solitude.
The Loch sports a nice basic campsite with mains hookup with water & waste disposal but, sadly no loo block yet.
There is a cracking little café at the Dalmellington end of the loch, the owner is a good friend of mine, there are camera's to observe a very close by osprey nest & the nest can be seen by the naked eye from the café.
Toilet facilities are provided for customers only but good on the hoof food is plentiful.

I was browsing through You tube & came across this nice wee video with shows the loch as I see it, the video is not mine but is at one of my many wilding spots.

Why don't you visit us sometime? The whole of Dumfries & Galloway & most of Ayrshire is motorhome friendly & unlike the NC500 the locals will welcome you with open arms, go on you know you want to.

Thanks for the video, although I do not like the 'thumpy' music he put on it nor is his accent my favourite in the UK.

One think I learnt is that the Newton Bay campsite is far from my idea of campsites, being basically wildcampers/Aires ourselves. However there are lots of places in Scotland which are similar.

Regret will not be taking you up on your invitation in near future, as we are living about 1,400 miles away from you.

Geoff

Thanks for sharing. (y)

We know it's lovely up there, many years ago I took malting barley up to Elgin and had some lovely weather a lot of the time, but we have been on motorcycles and had lots of rain and midges, but we have fond memories of the West coast, ;) the only place we have been in the chemist and not had to speak, they look at you and say rub some of this on.

But we perceived............. sort of, we knew a couple that went to Scotland every year, and they convinced us to do the Island's we got as far as Oban thick fog midges rain , did a u turn and thought as our nearest port to cross the channel is an hour away, this is not ment to be.
But if we ever do it again, we expect a guided tour. (y)
But ........................ We are a lot further south now, so probably never going to happen.:D2

But yes lovely part of the world, says us that had a month of :sun::sun::sun: on the West coast of Ireland. :pop: Bob.

now that video clearly shows what drones are perfect for. lovely scenery

Interesting, we are planning a three week trip in Scotland starting the end of this Month. We plan to visit friends who live on the edge of Clatteringshaws Loch on the way back down.
