Forthcoming changes to EU pet travel legislation

We got a 3 year validity rabies vaccination in France last year. This was in Brittany.
Rabisin following Rabisin is 3 years. Problem occurs when it is not or when Nobivac is given

I am not alarmist by habit but had worming done in St Jean De Luz. Strong enquiries about residence. I have an Irish passport and the EU pet passport address is of course now Irish address(my residence!) It was previously UK address. I think they would not have entered the record onto the PP if it had a UK address. It might just be this practice But??? What did surprise me that during one of the previous routine wormings details of the passport/microchip had been entered onto the French database. Receptionist kindly changed the address details and we got on with it. It may just be a very meticulous Vet practice (Mon Veto group though) or a taste of the future

Presumably you have a French Pet Passport? Do you always use this vet for worming, or was it another vet that had entered the details onto the French database?

No , Irish EU pp, No , first time for this vet. I have had worming done by 3 or more French vets. I am not sure which one , or all, entered it onto central database. Maybe it is routine.

Choose a new Vet next time. One of the consistent themes about the “new rules” is there is no problem whatsoever in EU Vets updating any treatments, even for Non EU pets in an EU passport or on an AHC.

They can’t issue new passports which may cause confusion for some, but adding data to existing documents is no problem.

Where was this? :)
The Tunnel as mentioned, post #2386

We cross late evening via the tunnel on the 3rd, we were feeling quite brave a few weeks ago about using our EU pet passport, last Monday the doubt started to set in as if we were refused by leshuttle the costs of a short notice AHC and another shuttle booking would be in the region of £550 so last Monday evening I scanned all the required EU pet passport info to Abbeywell vets in Folkestone and they accepted the info the next day and sent a payment link for £95. I will still attempt to use the pet passport at checkin and keep you all updated of the outcome, as for the £95 cost we always use camping car parks on the way down to spain and back to calais but this time we'll use free Aires and easily recover the cost of the AHC, were in no way short of £95 but see it as a way of making the French pay for their stupid rules and hopefully stay at some nicer places 😁

How bizarre! Why would they want an Irish Pet Passport with a UK/Irish address on a French database?!

Just had a thought - could one, some or all of the vets that you have used for worming in the past be part of the Mon Veto group? If so, could the database they referred to be an in-house one accessible to all vets in the group, rather than the French national database I-cad?

Perhaps all canine entry/exit movements are noted?

Quite likely . I have been over and back quite often.

Depends on interpretation. An EU PP used by a non EU resident owner is not a valid document. In some opinion. I would like to disagree

May very well be. Receptionist spoke no English and my limited French lost her at times. The “dossier” on my pooch seems to be held in Paris, from what I gleaned. My main point was they seemed to think that UK address would have been a problem.

It seems that I-cad is based in Montreuil in the eastern suburbs of Paris. Did you hear the name I-cad mentioned at all?

It also seems that you might be able to check if your dog is registered on I-cad by entering the microchip number at the following webpage:

Agree that vet might well be one for Brits to avoid if they are likely to query a UK address.

It keeps rejecting chip no. So it probably isnt. If she mentioned iPad I didn’t pick up on it. Being that far from Ferry/tunnel it probably isnt something they do often

I will be keeping a close watch on the FB groups to see if/what anyone travelling to France on or after 2 October reports back.
Since 2 October I have been monitoring the various Facebook pet travel groups to see what effect (if any) Brittany Ferries' 'update' has been having.

I have seen just one report from a poster in the AHC UK group stating that Brittany Ferries would not accept their Pet Passport at Portsmouth (heading to Caen), even tho' they proffered their 6-month French visa. They had a back-up AHC.

There has been one report of DFDS at Newhaven (heading to Dieppe) refusing travel with a Pet Passport - again, they had a back-up AHC. There has also been the odd previous report of this happening at Newhaven so it could possibly be down to a 'rogue' Pet Checker striking again. Someone else reported travelling from there (5 Oct) on a Pet Passport with no questions asked, and was subsequently informed that the Pet Checkers had been told to let people through and that they travel at their own risk.

At Eurotunnel, where the known rogue Pet Checker 'Karen' seems to have gone quiet, they are still accepting Pet Passports for travel without question. Lots of reports to this effect.

No reports of Pet Passport refusals with either P&O or Irish Ferries that I have seen.

Tonight one of the very few Facebook posters that I have any respect for is travelling to France with Brittany Ferries. They have already travelled 4 times using a Pet Passport since April, so it will be very interesting to learn how they get on .........

Perhaps he could provide a screenshot of the reply from the Dutch authorities to his 'reaching out' . Up to now we have heard little (if anything) from them.

The poster I mentioned in post #2540 has provided an account of their journey from Portsmouth to Caen last night. (I got the night they were travelling wrong, thought it was the night before.)

*** Edited to add that the Pet Passport had a French address written in it.

He’s cross posted it on other threads. The trolls are really out to get him now.

That's a bit over the top from BF. We have always found them pretty courteous.

They said EU PP was ok then abruptly changed their mind due to some as yet unexplained dictum from France. Maybe if he had used the Pet Pre-check he would have found that they were refusing to accept PP's.

maz Is there any point in writing to the French authority you were in contact previously who said PP's were still valid?

The Facebook poster was fully aware that Brittany Ferries might insist on an AHC - he was trying to test their system (which does seem a bit erratic).

I find it hard to believe that there has been any new directive with effect from 2 October issued by France. If there is any such thing it would surely apply to all cross-channel companies, which does not appear to be the case. 🤷‍♀️

While Eurotunnel and the others (apart from Brittany Ferries) are continuing to accept Pet Passports for travel, I do not think there is any need to poke the French Ministry of Agriculture about it.

We’ve decided it’ll have to be an AHC for our trip to Spain beginning of December as we are going with BF via St Malo. We have a Spanish PP but resident in UK.

Nerve. Failed. Picked up an £80 AHC in advance of our voyage to Santander next week. Annoys the hell out of me, but..

Yes, the inconsistency of approach makes it very difficult now to know what to do. Brittany Ferries have swung from being the most to the least reliable when it comes to accepting Pet Passports. How real or great is the chance of being subsequently checked by French customs - who knows? Will the Spanish issue a similar update - again, who knows? Eurotunnel currently seems to be the safest bet but the whole situation is a mess.
