It seems like almost every week that somebody is banging the same old drum about Ford being the most evil company on the planet.

Firstly it's a shame coz this is supposed to be a FUN forum.

Secondly, it's total Bollox. Thieves nowadays are getting cleverer and Ford's are way down the shopping list

No car is safe now. Police say about 20 top end cars are stolen in London Every day

But some folk won't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Just read this.....

I do not hate Fords. My Transit-based motorhome was stolen and I replaced it with another. I would much rather have Ford than Fiat. Having been made aware of the vulnerabilities, I have addressed them.
And this forum is about motorhomes, not cars.
The principal (I was going to say "key") vulnerabilities with the Transit Mk.7 have nothing to do with jamming of signals or theft of keys as described in the article cited above. And having a standard alarm system linked to the central locking provides no protection whatsoever against thieves gaining access by using a lock pick in the Tibbe lock. The alarm system is disabled when the lock pick unlocks the door(s).

Delicious irony. A good old angry rant on the Fun Forum, a bit of colloquial thrown in for good measure, not a smiley to be seen, and a moan coz it's supposed to be FUN .

Just a shame that you pay good money for something that, if you know, you then have to invest more money in making thief proof.:xThumb:
As with everything it is always the law abiding that foot the bill.

Personally I think a lot of people lean one way or another. I'm not a Ford lover and neither is SWMBO but that is because we have both had Ford cars and they were both rubbish. Admittedly, that's just our experience. We had them at different times in different locations and different models but equally awful cars BUT we both think we were unlucky as we know people who swear by them.
On the other hand, we have both had Skoda cars and never had a spot of bother with them.
At present I have a Seat (not overly impressed) Mii but it's ok. SWMBO has a Smart fortwo and loves it to pieces.
She would definitely have another Smart or Skoda and I'd definitely have another Skoda but we wouldn't have a Ford ONLY because of our previous experiences.

Never seen a bad comment about fords. Our son has a 14 year old focus that runs brilliantly, we've just driven it up from the south of France and it was an absolute dream.
Yes, personally I know scores of people who have Ford cars and mirror exactly what you say. I wouldn't knock Ford's by any stretch of the imagination because I've no reason to BUT I wouldn't buy one going on my own experiences. I've looked and admired many Ford models and nearly took one for a test drive but the past experience swayed me against but I wouldn't knock them

I own a Ford Motorhome. A 6L V8 Diesel, 325 BHP Returns just shy of 20mpg, cruises at 55mph at 1500 revs Love it. Even though it's cleary the most desirable motorhome on the road, I don't worry about it being nicked... It's been EddieVanBitzed :D

Getting better month by month.
I love my Dagenham dustbin. I don't fix or repair daily either. I started with mk 3 cortina then on to the escort, Orion, sierra and now onto the old mans mondeo. However, after reading so much on here I would be very reluctant to buy a transit based MH though.

When I worked in a motorhome dealership it was always the Fords that would start and the Fiat/Peugeots that required the jump pack. So perhaps Fords get nicked because they will start as the others are bypassed because they're too much hassle.

Fords are no easier to steal than any other vehicle. As long as you have access to the ODB port and some generic software it takes about 20 seconds to program a new key no matter what make the vehicle is.

If Ford motorhomes are being targeted particularly it's for some other reason than ease of theft.

Its because they are better vehicles than Fiats etc,,The thieves don't want to nick a van that breaks down every couple of miles,,,BUSBY:xgrin::xgrin::xsmile:

Maybe they are just more desirable. Because while they are the 6th most popular they are the most nicked van (not motorhome). Or were when I last read up on the topic.

The Transit Mk.6 and Mk.7 were fitted with the Tibbe lock, for which lock picks are readily available; with a standard alarm system connected to the central locking, the alarm is deactivated when the lock is picked. Is this the case with other chassis manufacturers?

So do I need to find a car thief with the right equipment to get a spare key made for my Fiat?
Other than paying Fiat an arm and a leg for a key everyone else I've asked say they can't do it (Timpsons and other key cutters).

If Fords were not so desirable, they'd nick a Fiat. But they're more selective. Who'd want a Fiat, if there was a choice?

Fiat is the easiest place to get new ones from. The places you mention should be able to cut you one if you have an existing one to use as a template but it won't work because it will need the transponder coding to the vehicle which is probably why they say they can't do it.

When mine were stolen I bought new uncoded keys from a Fiat commercial dealer. I can't remember how much they were but it wasn't loads.

There are loads of options then to get them coded. I couldn't move the van so I needed someone mobile which Fiat wouldn't do. I used the AA locksmith service purely because they were cheap.

Coding the keys is simply a case of plugging a laptop into the ODB port and following some basic instructions.

I know it's fashionable to knock the Turkish made Transit, but a friend of mine rolled his Transit based people carrier thing 4 times about 10 days ago.

A car pulled out of a farm entrance and the glancing blow flipped the van doing 60, ended up 100 yards into a field. 2 adults 2 kids walked out of it, my mate has 2 cracked ribs but literally that's it.

So I have no doubt that the current Transit is a well made bit of kit. Needless to say he's already ordered his new one!
