We keep our home in storage. Collected it 4 days ago and around all doors were dozens of flies nestling in the seals. Managed to get rid of most of them withou them coming in. However as the vehicle warmed up when on site we have been plagued by dozens more presumably they have come in via vents. I guess they were looking for a warm retreat over winter. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas to combat the problem?

Vacuum cleaner !!
spend ten minutes sucking the buggers up in every nook and cranny otherwise you will be finding dead ones for ages if you use a spray !

About this time of year the flies always seem to nestle into the sails of a yacht, one of the reasons for taking the sails off as early as possible, flies will find where they can to hide from the weather or maybe to hibernate ( not that I know much about flies).
Apart from ensuring your motorhome is completely sealed, nothing much helps.

Some years ago we were away for a month leaving the house empty. On our return before entering we couldn't see through the windows for blue bottles. The freezer was inadvertently left off and the blood from the meat had flowed under the carpets and through the floor boards.
Maggots were appearing up through the carpets for weeks before we changed all ground floor carpets and fumigated the floors. We hoovered and hoovered but the blighters still kept appearing up through the floors. Absolute nightmare. Never did it again.:(

Last year we found about 200 lady birds behind the seals of the cab doors.. We just gently knocked them all out to find a new overwintering spot in the garden..

We have the same problem at our lodge, arrive and put on heating, within an hour start to find flies awoken by the warmth.
They get into the smallest of gaps and you will never stop them, at first they are very sluggish and easy to catch.

We used to have to go through the cottage we lived in hoovering up sleeping flies and ladybirds before we could open windows for the summer. Spring cleaning....
