Withern Mill Trout Farm and fishery is a nice location near Alford in Lincolnshire. It has a 5 pitch CCC CS site with EHU and water but no other facilities but it is flat and well maintained. For the fluff chucker there are 5 mature fishing lakes that are well stocked and well maintained. They stock rainbow and brown with some big fish of both speicies. Owners Matt and sara are friendly and helpful. It is a really peaceful place

Fly fishing was a great passion of mine. Trout. sea trout and big Salmon in Canada (Vancouver Island). Sadly no more !

I have some great memories! Fishing in tidal waters on the river Towey at 3.00 a.m. and listening to a mother otter calling for her young and the very occasional big splash of a large sea trout out in the darkness got the juices flowing.

Still water fishing isn't for me much prefer the rivers, hence spending time up in Scotland for the Salmon and the Welsh River Dee for Grayling.

i enjoy wetting a fly. but not done much of it in the past few years. my most memorable sessions were in the Falklands, west island on the river Wharrah. Sea trout to die for, 26 over a weekend with biggest 9.5lbs.
All on a self tied Dunkeld fly, which was retired after that weekend and it is still in my fly box but, looks a bit raggedxroll:

A well known place for superb sea trout, My biggest was 5.1/2 lb caught at 2.00 a.m. above the weir at Nantgaredig. A superb fight! all I could do is hold the rod tip up and hope for the best.

That was the first fly (Dunkeld) I caught a trout on many moons ago .

Stayed at Withern Mill a 16-19 December and had a really great time. Lovely site and great fishing. Catch and release £15 per day. Had 8 to the net one day and 3 the next. Nice pub in the nearby village ( The Wagon & Horses) The workings of the trout farm are quite fascinating and the staff there will give you a guided tour if you ask. You can see the development from egg to stockie.

If you don’t fancy a walk to the pub you can get a bus which drops you off opposite the Wagon & Horses. You have to ring up and let the bus company know and tell them which stop you want picking up from. It works and was very punctual!

Just to confirm - there are toilet waste facilities at Withern Mill.

I remember years ago at Otterford Trout Lakes (Blackdown Hills) after a day fishing, as I was leaving the balliff passed me and asked 'how did you do'? I said 'two'. He said 'what! you caught both of them?!!'

Anyone know of day fly fishing in Dorset Hampshire?

My dad's in his 80's and has found his rods so I would like to take him fishing again...

Cheers James

thats good to hear about the bus. I shall probably be off there again end of the month

When in Canada, I hired a guide who took me up into the Rocky Mountains where we fished and caught wild cutthroat trout. A wonderful experience, truly wild fishing with amazing scenery. Once again, all fish returned.
