Been around the block a few times😉
For the previous three years since getting a campervan we’ve enjoyed the fun and adventures of travelling through to the Canaries meeting lots of great people along the way.
This October instead of traveling through the tunnel we booked a couple of flights due mainly to a hospital appointment (dates) and possible year end disruption and perhaps needing to return quickly.

Anyway the return flights cost less than £100 each and we were in Fuerteventura quicker than we could drive from home to the tunnel even before embarking on our six weeks drive.
Arriving home yesterday evening as a surprise for the grandkids for Christmas Day we both realised that the only way we enjoy travelling to the Canaries is by driving.

Yes it’s faster and cheaper by air but we would prefer to make new friends, memories and enjoy every mile rather than sit down and look through a window ?

As for the appointment I have to phone up on 28 Dec but should be sorted by the end of
January ?
Mind you they did say originally I’d be sorted by October ? but fingers crossed we’ll be heading through the tunnel early February ???

Hope all goes well with the appointment and your off back across the tunnel before you know it.

That's some trip, visiting the Canaries by MH. :) But I think your conclusions support the ideas that the journey is more important than the arrival and you tend not to appreciate anything unless you have to put in some effort to achieve it.

Interesting post! Firstly, hope you can get the medical issues sorted out and be back on the road again soon.

We fly quite a lot, and we drive quite a lot.

We like the Canaries in winter for the climate (and scenery), but we haven't taken the van yet - but we fly there at least once a year, sometimes twice. Our last trip - to La Gomera - was a couple of weeks ago.

Last winter and this year also, we've driven the van to Alicante, put it in a garage close to the airport and flown home. Then backwards and forwards by air most months until spring, to use the van before driving it back to Blighty again.

Flew from UK to Alicante yesterday.

Works for us! :xThumb:

DBK. Sums our thoughts up exactly.?

Mike. We’ve looked into the park up and fly but it is complicated by taking the Pooch with us so we end up playing safe taking the ferry from Cadiz.

Thanks for the concerns regarding the hospital but it’s not too major but impossible to really plan plus insurance is loaded with an extra £600 ?
