Brother has phoned to say his Flurrete LH drive motorhome has failed MOT on dipped beam flat as fitted for contenental driving, although has beenthrough x2 pre ious tests problem, does any body know how to overcome this issue. Can appropriate lighting be obtained in UK
Apparently main beams are okay

What are the lights like, are they round or standard base vehicle lights.

Martin

I should also have said I am surprised that a flat dip is a problem at MOT time.

For an MOT it is acceptable to have them set up for LHD and fitted with beam defectors but it is not acceptable for importing, crazy or what.

If they are flat beam like you say they should not fail MOT
All Honda Backbirds post 2001 and a good many other bikes are fitted with fitted with flat beam as standard and are approved

Take it to a different MOT station - I know they will see the reason for failure but I suspect they will pass it.

All aparently sorted, MOT tester also carried out a service and stated he turned the lights 180 * which altered the system. out come, re test and passed,

So if they were flat, they are now pointing up in the air ?
Tell your brother to find another MOT place.. an honest one this time !

Flat topped beams I thought were legal, it is right side raised ones that are not. Beam deflector will not change a flat top pattern only the right up pattern to flat.

The mechanic probably spilled some of this into the headlamps when he was topping up the indicators, it can make your headlights go "cross eyed". (y)

I did say set them to LHD (kick up to right) then fit beam defectors.

My Bolero (07 X250 Fiat) passed several MoT's with a continental headlight on the nearside. I did have beam benders fitted and it seems that was okay. Replaced the unit with a proper one though.

well he has returned and stated the mechanic altered the light unit from LH drive to RH to comply with legal requirement by turning the lamp, brother has now turned them back so he can drive on the continent
