Currently in Tuscany and so far have visited Cinque Terre, Pisa and Lucca, all with Jamie our Westie but in the heat he found it all a bit much. Although he is perfectly happy on his own in the van we are concerned about leaving him for long enough to have a worthwhile visit when it gets very warm.

I'm currently thinking about parking up on one of the close-in sostas that is walkable but there is also a bus service.

What has anybody else done in these circumstances?

Not sure if he'll be allowed on public transport or not, but if so, you'll likely have to get him a muzzle.

Dogs are allowed on public transport in Italy at the discretion of the driver, who may ask that the dog wears a muzzle, so you must have one to hand.

I was told the same about the trains but in the end no-one seemed to be bothered. Buses might be different however.

We stand no chance of getting a muzzle on him, even if we'd got one!

When its very hot, in my experience the coolest place for the dogs is in the mh. Close blknds on the sunny side and plenty of ventilation it will usually be a lot cooler especially if it starts off cool with the cab a/c

Thanks. Florence yesterday was quite dull with rain showers so we left him in the van with plenty of ventilation. Apart from being deliriously happy to see us again (which he always is) no problems. Will see what happens when we eventually reach Rome.

Personally,I wouldn’t inflict Rome on any dog, hideously frantic, noisy, smelly and probably hot.

Yep, my thoughts too about Florence. He was far better off in the van.
