@5yrs
Hi.
Can anyone advise me?
I have a 2007 Flair 8000 on the Iveco 6T chassis.

It has full self levelling air suspension. Documents suggest it's a VB system, fitted from new.

Under the bonnet, as you can see there are 2 valves and two switches

The reason I'm looking into this isn't that the system doesn't work it's that I'd like to soften the front end if possible. Before I start messing I would like to know what these switches are? Help?!

Also, pressures. Right now 'self levelled' the rears are @58psi and the fronts at least 60psi.
I'm unsure if this is correct.
Vehicle drives fine just front feels hard to me.

ETA:
The switches do NOT kill the pump feed for if you've drained one end down.
I've tested for that

On our Flair we ran about 50 psi on the rear (3.25 bar) but of course that will depend how loaded the van is, we had semi air fitted on the front so we still had the torsion bars at factory setting and the air bags set at just under 3 bar so 40 ish psi.

If yours is factory fit you will have some buttons on the dashboard or a separate controller on a curly lead, again if it is factory fit with self levelling you won't be able to drop air pressure as that would drop the ride height and it will just level up again, you should be able to find the ride height sensor on the rear axle and the pumps should be there as well in a rectangular box if it's factory fit.

I would assume that the two valves are emergency fill points for if the pump goes down F R front and rear so it's a 2 channel system where the latest ones are 4 channel where all 4 corners are indipedent, as to the switches I really don't know what they do but it suggest separate pumps, does anything happen when you switch them?

You could always try just letting some air out and see what happens as you could always put it back with a tyre pump if required.

More photos of bags F and R and under the rear axle and switches on the dash if you can please.

I didn’t think it would be a clean job(y)

so pictures in order,

the switches are for each pump I guess where we also had two pumps but they both ran together as only the standard rear air wad connected to them.

two pumps on that box and in the box will be the relays and solenoid valve for dropping air out.

yes VB system(y)

if this box is a different one to the one with the pumps on then it is the controller for the rear diff lock.

front bag with ride height sensor.

so back to your original question, what was it:LOL: what do the switches do under the bonnet? Are they not just a duplicate of the inside ones? And can you drop the front pressure? Yes but the ride height will drop and might just put itself straight back up, does it look right for level and height?

Won't the front ones be assisters on that model Martin? so whatever you do isnt going to soften it up
Hi Jon

I believe that 2007 is the first of what they call the high frame where the floor will be one level, my understanding is that this configuration can have full air on the front which I think this is with the bags horizontal where our semi had smaller bags vertical as assistance.

Yes if they were just semi air or assistance bags dropping air out would just put more reliance back onto the torsion bars.

Yep, 2007 flat floor

Those switches;
I've switched them while pump runs
I've switched them when pumps off
I've switched them with bags deflated and pumped.....

She levels up beautifully. Suspension works spot-on.

But I don't know what on earth those switches do!!!!

Assisters make sense.

I'm wondering if I should drop 10-12psi on tyres.
When hot they're running at @81psi

And 70psi cold

.......and try to forget the horrible torture of not knowing about those switches.

OR
Email VB a link to this thread and then ring them

They obviously don't do anything ;) my guess is they were supposed to be duplicates of the ones inside but for some reason are not anymore.

What tyres are you running and have you weighed the axles, our Flair was quite light on the front at less than 1900kg so with 121 rated Continentals from memory I was running about 56psi, our MORELO was over 2600kg on the font axle when we got it and the Continental recommended pressure is just over 72psi.

Yeah, I think having maybe gone into autopilot and set the pressures similar to the 7.5T's at work they're too high.

I've emailed VB. Including a link to this.
Hopefully they'll respond.
