Some....good & bad!
Noticed a substantial leak from my bathroom across the floor and traced it to a shower drain. Had a look under the van and the waste pipe fell out of the fitting when I touched it. Question, would it be ok to reassemble with PVC pipe cement as this would presumably render it unable to be ever removed again without breaking something or should I assume that once fixed in place one should never need to remove it again anyway?

I had a similar problem and fixed the pipe in place with Araldite.
Worked well but I had about 6mm of engagement in the female fitting for the joint.

I had a similar dilemma on an old coachbuilt - I opted for screw fittings instead of plastic cement. Took a trip to a local plumbers merchant to find fittings required as needed a long drop from a shower drain fitting down to where there was enough room to fit a U-bend before heading off to nrmal waste tank (killed two birds with one stone as prevented waste tanks smells coming up the shower drain).

Was it glued, or in a compression fitting initially?

if glued , re glue.

We had a similar problem with a shower drain on a Hobby motorhome, in our case there was a hairline crack in the waste as well as a loose pipe, reattaching the pipe reduced the leak but in the end I had to replace the whole waste fitting.

Just push fit I think with the typical 28mm grey rigid pipe.

The tray fitting is sandwiched between the tray and the floor so no access to change anything.
