Fixing a smoke/co detector

Looking to fix a combined smoke and co detector, just wondered where/how people are fixing them, is it safe to use a couple of self rappers into the ceiling?

Mine was 3M self adhesive. After the standard bone shaking drive on the M20 it kept falling off, I resorted to replacing the 3M adhesive and added 2 small screws for the smoke. The co is hung on the pillar beside the bed.

Remember Co is lighter than air so mount it high.
