There is a piece of kit called 'Fixandgo' that came with my 2013 Ducato which can be used to inject 'stuff' into the tyre if it has a puncture and it also claims to be able to pump up the tyres.

Has anyone used the device to pump up their tyres and, if so, how good or bad is it running off the 12v power plugs.?

I only want to use it to inflate the tyres up to their normal level of 61 psi (4.2 bar) if they drop slightly and need a bit more air in them.

I don't intend inflating a flat tyre but just to top the tyre up if needed.

My experience was
It blew the 15amp fuse when using cab socket, fuse under bonnett.
The slime leaked out without being switched to that position, probably as pump got hot.
Pump broke, the internals let go, pumping tyres from in use 55psi mode up to 80 psi storage mode.
The slime has a shelf life, I think about 3 years.
  • All in all rubbish, now have spare wheel and jack, which have been used due to puncture in france. Although externally tyre looked good after deflation the internal state was terrible, lots of rubber chips inside from rim rubbing, so good job I did not try sliming it with fiat gunge.
So to sum up I dont recommend.

I have a feeling that the pump will be very slow and you would have to be careful that you are not pumping the gunge in at the same time as air, my "go to" inflator for topping up is a cycle stirrup pump much quicker than messing around with 12v plugs and tiny volume pump.

Same problem I'm afraid. Blew fuse under bonnet which was a pain to replace. Never used it since.

If you pump 'slime' in the puncture cannot be repaired and the tyre is no longer fit for anything but get you home as I understand it

I once got a puncture on my motorbike and used the slime - it didn't work.

Not according to my tyre man, indeed he carries a slime kit in his BMW even thought it has run flats the argument being that running on a run flat will ruin it in a few miles but slime just washes out and the tyre is still good and can be repaired.

Keith

I used mine ok to top up my tyres. You have to ensure that the slime is definitely turned off before using it. I didn't plug mine into any of the standard Fiat 12v sockets, but used a couple of 12v sockets I had fitted which were cabled and fused at 15a. Was a little slow, but all ok(y)

Cheers

So here you go(y)

About 40 pumps is 5psi in my 225x75x16 from memory.

If you wish to have a workout then the high pressure cycle pump is ideal!
I used mine to pump up the tyre from about 50 to 80 psi on a warm summers day hot work so I purchased an electric pump as recommended on this site. It connect directly to the 12 volt connection under the Fiat bonnet for starting the van with an external supply hence no fuse to blow.

On the old van I used to use the compressor no problem. On the new van it just blows the fuses. So binned and bought another compressor.

Where’s this 12v socket under the bonnet?

Some interesting statements here...............................we always use exactly the same item to inflate our tyres or air suspension to well over 60 psi.....................no fuse no problem. Making sure you bypass the slime connection of course.

The slime will not work in many cases as a small puncture often leads to a blowout. But if you do catch it and are able to use the slime it does not ruin the tyre but most repairers cannot be bothered to clean it out and would rather sell you a new tyre........................but I'd rather have a new tyre fitted anyway.

Been using the Fiat compressors that came with the last two vans without problems. Will blow the 10amp fuse when it gets hot on my hab circuit but ok on cab socket. Takes the rears upto 80psi, does struggle a bit over 75 psi. Best to let it cool for 10-15 min after taking a tyre to 80 otherwise ok.

Used mine once it blew the fuse , I binned mine

I’ve used ours to top up air in tyres and it worked well I would not use the slime bit of it though as we carry a spare wheel.(y)

Make sure you fit a spare wheel,,BUSBY.

I have a cordless rechargeable handheld pump with digital pressure guage and auto cut off once it reaches the correct pressure . Makes topping up pressures as easy as it gets.
I have binned the Mercedes gunk pump in favour of a spare wheel.
I do carry a heavy duty 12v compressor as well if I need to inflate from flat, connected direct to battery with clips, it has a short lead but a long spiral hose.

Same here. Tried using it twice and on both occasions it blew the fuse. I read somewhere that you should only turn it on with the engine running??? Not sure what that difference makes.

For the FIAT and also Ford there is a connection under the bonnet for the engine to be jump started this connected directly to the 12V battery. The van handbook will have details of where this is, our old transit Mk7 had a post with a red cap as a cover, the Fiat has it hidden under a black plastic flap.

The fuse would still blow.

Thanks for all the relevant replies.

I found the device in the back of the garage during a clear out and couldn't decide whether it was worth keeping as I have a spare tyre for the MH.

I'll give it a try at topping up the pressures and let you know how it performs.

I was very skeptical about slime for puncture repair, but last week my daughter's car had a flat tyre while we were quite far from home. This car doesn't have a spare wheel.

Putting the slime in the tyre was fiddly. The valve core had to be removed, the slime squirted in, then the valve core replaced and the tyre pumped up with a 12 volt compressor. In fact it got her home, was still up the next morning and got her to the tyre shop to get it changed.

At Kwik-fit she bought a replacement slime bottle, but this one was rigid with a tyre-type valve at the top, and also an outlet tube attached. You simply screw the tube onto the valve of the flat tyre, attach the compressor to the valve on the bottle, and the slime gets pumped into the tyre by the compressor.

I think this is preferable to the all-in-one pump/slime unit. Is this whole unit disposable once the slime is used, or can it be refilled?

I fitted a dedicated 12v socket direct to the vehicle battery this allows me to use my compressor without having the ignition on for the the dash socket, it also gives me a way to charge the vehicle battery without too much faffing around.

Blew the fuse on mine when I tried to use the compressor. Not surprising, the sockets are protected by 15A fuse, the compressor is rated 16A - nice one Fiat!!

I used my pump just for toppimg up tyres & you use the black pipe on the bottom. Works a treat/

Thread resurrection! It sounds like it’s blown my dash connector fuse, so I switched to a hab socket, but it’s cut out at 55 psi. Any ideas, should it be able to pump to a higher pressure?

Used ours as a pump loads of times no issues……I almost always run the engine when using it.
