please bare with me on this as I've never done this kind of thing but I'm handy enough if pointed in the correct direction.

I have ordered some Ali channel and cover 2 at 2m
I have ordered a controller as suggested on another thread for brightness etc.

Now the tricky bit for me.
Is it a simple case of supplying a 12v feed to the led strip.
What led strip do people recommend without busting the bank balance.

I'll be using the existing outside light for my feed.

Can the led strip be cut near enough where you want the attach cables to it?

Thanks

For ocassional use cheap eBay ones are fine but if used continuously the cheap ones do gradually get dimmer or turn yellow.

Thanks (y)

I need to split the lengths of led so there will be a longer length going towards the back maybe 3m and 1m forward.

Is it just a case of connecting each run up to the controller?

This is all new to me so would like to get it straight in my head before I buy something that isn't any good.

Yes just connect them together in parallel.
You will find cutting marks on the strip after every 3 LED's.

Seems like the RGB led strips only do colour and don't do white.

If thats the case I will have to just have white and the disco lights will have to be passed on

Make sure you buy the waterproof ones. Slightly dearer but better in the long run.

@webby1 thanks for the link.

Im still fishing around to try and get some "disco" lights :)

Some one told me some time ago its the controller that sorts out the colour but I'm not so sure now.

I can recommend Aten lighting, ask for Saul. I just fitted a four metre strip of dimmable led's with a remote control. 8v to 30v (y)

RGBs cannot produce true white - the clue is in the name. The individually addressable variety (much more expensive) can produce true white, are used for those pole displays that imitate fireworks & fountains, and cost a lot more.
