Fitting Battery Master

I have just purchased a VB Battery Master and need some advice on fitting it to my 2007 Burstner i684.
The Burstner is fitted with an Elektroblok so has no split charge relay to fit the Battery Master to.
Short of fitting long wires to connect to both batteries, is there anywhere else I could wire the Battery Master into?
 
Do you have a charger with outputs to leisure and engine battery? Connect there.
 
Try these, the wires dont have to go all the way to the cab battery.


 
Hard to advise without the elektobloc model number, but if on the back (ie not the side with all the connections and fuses) its got a feed for +ve to hab, +for engine and a -ve then you should be able to connect straight into that. That's what we did, as have others (though as always YMMV).
 
I don’t appear to have a seperate charger, just the Elektroblok. I’ll have a look at this tomorrow to see if there are connectors on the back but from my initial investigations today I don’t think there are.

The Electrobloc is the battery charger as well as a 12v distribution and fuse board and a split charge relay. As others have said on the back you will find positive cables to both the engine and leisure batteries.

Edit. BTW you probably don't need the battery master as most EBLs charge both the engine and habitation batteries.

The model is the EBL99 and looking at photographs on tinternet it looks like the battery leads enter at the back as Burgo has suggested.
Just need to figure out how to get to the back of it now as it’s located under the front passenger seat and there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way of removing the ventilated seat stand cover behind it.

Did you connect the Battery Master earth to a vehicle earth or to the -ve terminal?
 
Having just researched on tinternet, it looks like seat removal to get to the back of the Electrobloc :oops:
 
We had the same issue. Hard to get to the back of the EB.
Located the BM next to the leisure battery and connected the leisure positive and negative directly to the battery.

Ran a thickish red power lead to the starter battery under the floor with a 10a fuse both ends.

If it's difficult to reach the back of the EBL, there are connections at the front. There's a 2-way connector for an auxiliary charger. If that's unused, it's ideal for the leisure battery positive and negative connections. An alternative is the 3-way solar connection. Leisure battery positive is Pin3, negative is Pin1. To use these, fit the corresponding fuse: Zusatz Ladegerat (Auxiliary Charger) or Solar.

On the EBL99, the starter battery connection is not so easy. Pin 2 of the solar connection doesn't go to the starter battery like it does for most other EBL models. However Pin1 of the 5-way connector is the starter battery positive. A good way to connect is to buy a 5-way plug and socket, connect pins 2 to 5 straight through, and connect pin 1 straight through with an extra wire crimped in for the starter battery positive. Take out the 5-way connector from the EBL socket, and insert your new short bit of wiring, then plug the old 5-way into the new 5-way. Note, Pin1 takes a lot of amps for the fridge 12V element when the engine is running, so make sure the connections are 100%.

These connectors are MNL (Mate'N'Lok) type, available from automotive electrics suppliers such as Altec Automotive or 12VoltPlanet. The pins are separate, crimp on the wires, and push into the connector shells until they click and are locked.

I just used all 3 of the terminals - not a seperate earth. The plastic cover does come off - slide seat back and out your hand through the hole. It is a b+gg&r though and taking off the inboard side panel (2 or 3 screws) may help. There's two plastic lugs each side of the top that need to be depressed to release it. I found a post on this forum that had some info, but to be honest it may me cuss. I then mounted my battery master on the floor behind in a hollow and can fist see the lLEDs by standing outside the hab door and looking over the floor. You can download the EBL manual in English from the Schaudt website.
 
In all honesty the seat off method sounds less complicated than those mentioned above.
I’ll give it a go over the next few days and report back.

Finally done it.
There didn’t seem to be a way to remove the cover from the back of the seat easily so I ended up removing the passenger seat to access the Electrobloc. Wired the Battery Master into the 12v feeds at the back and job done :clap2:

I'm trying to fit a battery master to my van (after vehicle battery drained quite a bit during lockdown despite solar).
I have a sergent ec460, plus solar and Buxton battery monitor that are both directly connected to the leisure batteries (2x 100vA).
The leisure batteries connect to the brown/orange+white and vehicle battery to the red and black cables in the attached photo.

I am thinking that I will break and rejoin one each of the brown, orange and white and red cables with yellow crimped spade connectors (m+f).

I should then be able to insert the battery master into each of the joints with an additional yellow male and female spade connector for each joint.
Does this sound like a reasonable way to splice it in?

Sounds reasonable to me, but I stress that I am not a vehicle electrician in any way. You would also need to connect the Battery Master earth to a suitable earthing point or possibly splice it into the battery negative cable.

If I were doing this, I'd use a yellow butt connector to connect the cut ends, and also add a thin wire for the BatteryMaster into the butt connector. If you want to be able to disconnect it, a pair of spade M+F connectors in the thin wire would work. A butt connector is less resistance than a M+F pair of spade terminals.
 
All done thanks - now just the hopefully not too long a wait for the batteries to equalise and the light to turn green.

I'm a bit paranoid about wiring colours here. Are you sure the brown wire is the positive not the negative? Been working on the Hymer too long, I think. Can't find a wiring diagram for the EC460.

The BM has a brown positive as well as a red.

Yep. Tested it with a voltmeter to make sure I had the right battery connections and polarities.

I also couldn't find any sort of connection diagram for the ec460 - just the operating instructions.
 
At least you’ve got a light On the battery master, that’s always a good sign ;)

A bit late now, but the EC460 would normally have a smart charging facility, which maintains both leisure & vehicle batteries via solar input.
You do need to change the priority in the advanced settings menu.
