Fitting a jockey wheel to an Erde PM310 trailer (1 Viewer)

This motorbike trailer has an awkward arrangement which doesn't offer a straight bit of bar to clamp a jockey wheel to, thus the trailer has to be hitched up to load and unload.


Has anybody managed a workaround?

I think that most m/c trailers, well the few that I have borrowed don't have jockey wheels as they need to be hitched up before loading, otherwise the trailer would move with disastrous consequences.

So is there another reason for wanting a jack leg or jockey wheel ?

Hi - purely for loading/unloading. There are occasions when the trailer has to be unhitched to get onto a pitch and it's a real pain to have to unload the scooter first. Secondly, I was thinking (yes, dangerous I know) that a jack leg/jockey wheel could raise the front of the trailer slightly to make loading that bit easier.

But as soon as you wheel the scooter back if it's not hitched to the vehicle the trailer will tip up, unless you have jack legs at both the front and back.

You would also need rear legs
I think its far better to load it is hitched up.

It will - but clamping a couple of lightweight prop stands onto the rear frame appears to be quite straightforward as there is plenty of space. Its just the front where the coupling head attaches that is causing me a headache.

The Jocky wheel hasnt got to be front of A frame just front of axle to work see pic

generally an unbraked trailer never has a jockey wheel. Its a safety feature to avoid a run away on a slope.

I never needed one on my PM310, I found it easy to move but I suppose it depends what bike you have on it.

Don't use a jockey 'wheel' but get the 'leg' type which is just a flat plate on the base.
