First trip to the UK with our camper -freecamping? (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone, We have had a camper for 4 years and have done some extensive travelling on the continent - from Sicily to the Lofotons, Spain, France, Germany, Austria .... We have usually managed to freecamp three nights out of five wherever we have been, but more in Scandanavia. Is this also possible in England and Scotland? Ours is not a discreet machine, being 4.5 meters long and with the overcab bed 3 meters high ... and white to boot. We have downloaded a couple of lists of places from the web and have the Britstop book (we have used France Passion for two years and quite like the idea). Any advice would be welcome. We are planning a two-to three month tour from late April and hoping the snow will have melted by then . Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the fun, Wild camping (Free camping/parking etc.) is easy in Scotland, England is a bit more uptight about it though I wild park (one night only at each place) all of the time, look out for laybys that are set back from the road, or industrial estates, Beaches are not usually a good bet at there are usually parking restrictions, you can usually get away with discreet parking in woodland if not fenced off. As wilding in the UK is such an emotive thing I will not post any specific locations, but they are easy to spot as you are driving. I recommend subscribing to get the most from this site otherwise you will be restricted in your posts, search facilities etc. Also as a subscriber you will be eligible to join our rallies which can offer some cheap camping with facilities.

There is no law in the UK to prevent you. There may be local laws ( bye-laws ) set by councils and will be signposted.

Scotland is your best bet, lot of land and few people. England is much more congested. Wales is a like Scotland only smaller.

Even campsites can be a problem, too many MHs and caravans and too few sites in the best places.

But it sounds like you know what you are doing so you'll survive.

Welcome to the forum
We have just spent a couple of nights at the above pub - stayed in carpark no facilities, but free wi fi in pub - good food as well. Very welcoming & asked us to pass them on to other Motorhomers. Very close to historic town of Lincoln - 5 min walk to train station, & 10 min train ride to city. Next to Fossdyke canal - a very handy spot
