We are looking at venturing to Spain for the first time next year. Wondering about including the dog!

My question is .....

Did your dog appear to suffer any reactions to the Rabies vaccine?
What reaction did it have if any?
What breed do you own?

Any other thought or tips about taking dogs abroad would be welcome!

Thanks guys

No I'll effects. Collie. Check out the forum for cheap animal health certificate. Get an EU passport when you get the chance.

Two working Cocker Spaniels, no adverse reactions. They enjoy the life on the open road. No tips to speak of vets before return to UK can very in price. If you are Calais to Dover or Folkestone try the vet at Buchy ( Aire in Buchy, but services u/s at the moment) if you have your own tablets and he is in a good mood he doesn't even charge to fill out the health certificate. Worst case scenario 11.5 euros per dog. Don't suggest " free" but you may be pleasantly surprised.

No ill effects that’s for a working cocker spaniel and now a young cockapoo
As for travelling, it can be a lot warmer than the UK so keep that in mind.
The rest is as per travel in the UK,

Hi and welcome to the Fun!
:welc:
The rabies vaccination is the easiest part of taking a dog abroad! Border collie, now 11 years old, never had a bad reaction to rabies vaccine.

Animal Health Certificate is the major pain now - both financially and logistically. Get an EU Pet Passport while you are in Spain - it will make subsequent trips so much easier. There are many threads on here about both AHCs and EU Pet Passports.

Enjoy your travels!

We've used a couple of vets in San Vicente de la Barquere when sailing back from Santander. There's an aire and a campsite in the town.

Our golden Labrador had no adverse reaction to the jab.
It’s worth investing in a Scalibor or Seresto collar if going to Spain when it’s hot as the sand flies can give dogs Leishmaniasis which can be fatal to them.

Two Cocker Spaniels been travelling to Spain twice a year for last seven years no problems with rabies vaccine. Shop around for Health Certificate varies in price, get Spanish pet passports when you’re there. Northern Spain is stunning enjoy

I used PassPets at Havant, Hampshire, They charge £100 for the first dog and £50 for each additional dog, up to 5 max on one form.

Never any ill effects from the Rabies jab over many years and various dogs.

We have 3 border collies all different ages never had a reaction to rabies jab.
We got them Spanish pet passports earlier this year with no problem.

Does anyone know if you can buy those leishmaniasis collars before going abroad or do you buy them at a vet once you get there?

You can get scallobor collars from mist pet outlets, Amazon pets at home etc.

They are expensive here but all the big pet shops sell them at nearly half price
