Sort out your gas before you go. They don’t use Calor Gas and fittings are different. You also need a contract for their gas bottles. If you have Autogas or similar make sure you take the appropriate connector. Difficult to find in France.

You will also need to take out a mortgage out on your house. Food prices are high and so is Derv

Would check out campsites as a lot close at the end of the season.

We’ve been to France for the past two years and have always found diesel to be cheaper than the UK and Intermarche seemed similarly priced to tesco.

What’s a Brittany Ferry code out of interest?

A Brittany Ferries Club Voyage members membership number - which permits any guest of that member a 10% discount off the cost of the ferry fare (not accommodation)
The member gets a £10 credit towards their next crossing, as a thankyou from BF

Prepare to be inundated with offers of BF membership numbers / codes :D:D

Diesel has gone up in France a lot and is now at best the same as UK and often more.

But I agree on Intermarché but we also use Lidl and Aldi. Carrefour can be pricey.

Diesel was the same price as E10 petrol at our local Leclerc yesterday EUR 1.515, just a few centimes cheaper than proper 95 petrol.

When we first arrived in early 2003 the prices were 0.75 and 1.00 how times have changed.

We buy what we can at Lidl and/or Aldi, the rest Leclerc. There is no local Carrefour, Auchan or any of the biggies but things cost what they cost. If you need something you have to pay the asking price and if you don't need it why are you buying it?

You may find it advisable to carry cash as well as credit card for fuel anyway as a lot of supermarkets have unmanned fuel stations so you need a card with a fair exchange rate

More and more of our supermarket filling stations are now unwomanned but you can often pay in cash at a special booth where you swap your folding for a bit if paper with a barcode. Never used it so this is all I know.

Beware non supermarket filling stations particularly in smaller towns and villages, the price differential can be as much as 20 centimes per litre. The wrong way of course.

Many thanks for all your advice will heed your tips, especially about buying petrol from supermarket as opposed to small Village outlets. We will definitely try out an Aire or two as totally new experience.

We are looking for a few campsites but not too many so far open at this ime of year so wish us luck. We will be around the D Day beaches for weekend of November 11th so should be a very moving experience.

@Nirvanauk - it is untrue to claim that everything is more expensive here. Houses and annual road tax are far cheaper than U.K.

In my experience some things are cheaper, some are dearer and some are similar in price. Comparisons are always complicated by exchange rates.
