Carthago 4.9 superior
As you may know we are away in our new carthago for our 1st proper trip and one thing I did not like about this carthago was the stupid large lounge table that seemed to get in the way all the time.

I decided to remove the table and pedestal and buy a cheap £50 fold away table that takes about 30 seconds to get out the garage and set up for dinner.

I must say it's the best thing I have done we have been away for 8 nights now and it feels so roomy in here without the table, I kno w people will say it's not right to pay all that money then have to alter things but for me it really works well

Below is a pic of the table but it's not in the position for eating it us just there for illustration when eating we move it away from the seats and have plenty of leg room around it

We did the same with our Hymer.

You may be surprised how many of us do not need a very large table, we reduced ours.
Enjoy your new van,

Blimey-See what you mean that does look like it would be very tight with original table thought it would be much large. we did similar but fitted with removeable poles into sockets after kicking the table legs and the drinks falling over. then we also made a smaller top that fits into one socket for apperos

Our new Wildax came with 2 small tables to mount on single legs, both could be used together to make a larger (but still small) table for dining. We decided that as we would still need a table for outside we would remove the slots in the floor and store the legs and tables at home. We bought a perfect size table top and folding legs from Magnum motorhomes, we now have one table for inside and out and a washable mat instead of fitted carpet with holes in it. Winner.

When we got our Carthago (after 2 British vans with folding tables) we expected to struggle with the fixed table, but decided to see how we got on. We got on fine, and find having the table useful. (Although I must admit one of the tables which folds in half, as on current Rapidos, would be handy.)

We did the same thing in our Aviano, the space was more useful than a permanently mounted fixed table which didn’t fold. This was pre-table removal

Much more convenient without it, especially with the dogs onboard (not to mention the weight of the thing).

Good idea, gives you more leg room. Must agree some of the tables are massive. Our present Knaus had a large table and we had to take it out so we could get the new pups cage in. Grew to like it so had it that way for 3 years, only put it back recently as I am selling it.

@Lanerboy it looks like you also opted for cupboards and headroom instead of the drop down bed.

Ours was the same in the Laika so got a new one made but smaller. Far better and much more room. Still have the pedestal and the table sliding system just a smaller top.

A big table that you struggle to get round put us off a lot of vans, luckily, our table folds in half and can be moved around on its pedestal so there’s plenty of room to get around it and plenty of table when you need it.

Yes we did as there is only the 2 of us we wanted the extra cupboards and twin opening sky lights it makes it feel so roomy in there plus no bed above that rattles as you drive

We would love to get rid of the drop down bed in our S Plus, but at age 2008 we cannot get matching cupboards anymore.

We have taken the table out of ours (it looks like it had already been replaced by the previous owner as there are marks on the floor where socket for the leg would have been and the one we had fitted on a rail under the window and a leg at the other end). We have a smaller table which sits on a fiamma tripod and so can be used inside or out.

Nice,

You need to have a word with your sat-nav though..... it wants to take you through your garage...:D

We also felt the table was rather excessive in our Carthago, especially with a 30kg Dalmatian travelling with us....

Having seen various options over on the Carthago group, I ordered the parts required and came up with the following solution, which works extremely well for us(y)

Did the same on our Carthago. Bought a very small plastic tray and put it on the seat between passenger seat and corner section of lounge. Ideal place for cofffee cup and evening drinks. Saves having the table out other than munchie time

How can you prepare and enjoy a proper 4-course meal with red and white wine glasses, flowers, candles etc on a diddy little table? Not forgetting the brandy glasses too... Bigger the better in my book - applies to brandy and tables.

And we have a big, heavy table for al-fresco dining too.

Use the kitchen?

@Lanerboy, that is a brilliant thought! What is the table/where did you get it, please?

And @Hellski, that is another excellent solution, we had such a table in the cockpit of our boat.

My solution was to spend a lot of money on a table from a smaller Adria than ours, but I confess I see me spending more money on one of these ideas.

Thank you.

@chuns
It is a cheap 40 quid table from Argos

I think it weighs about 5kg and the one I took out weighs about 25kg with the base (not that this matters to me as I have lots of spare payload but it may help others)

I only put it in the motorhome if we are having a meal and takes me less than a minute to get out the garage and set it up. It looks like there is not a lot of room in my pictures but actually we have it the other way around than it is in the picture and there is plenty of room for 2 people to eat including drinks.

Thanks. I will give it a go - no screws/bolts to undo, the current one just lifts off, so nothing to lose, relatively speaking. Cheers, P
