Im a newb
Hi guys, my wife and i are planning to hit the road and never look back! The only thing we need is a vehicle, it must be automatic, reliable, have shower facilities and preferably kitted out for off grid living solar panels etc we are just unsure what to go for, what to pay and where to look we have a budget of around 20k and i figured we would get something pretty good for the money but im struggling to find ‘the one’ any help would be much appreciated thanks for reading

Perhaps you could build your own ?
That way you can have exactly what you want, configured the way you want...
It’s not that hard if you have basic/ reasonable diy skills their is loads of info on how to do this on you tube and other forums.👍🏻
20k is a lot of money if you build your own, sadly i doubt its gonna buy you what you require.... of course I may be wrong.🙄

Going to be tough on 20k You sound like you have looked already and had difficulty seeing something.

will this be your first Motorhome? If so, have you thought about hiring one for a week and seeing how you would feel being together long term in a box?

Imagine living the dream together in a bedsit for 12 months and having to empty the toilet manually. See if that really works for you.

20K is a small budget for something that ticks all your boxes. You may have to compromise, or as has been suggested, go down the self-build route to get exactly what you want.

It's doable on that budget but it will take some looking. I bought a lovely 54 plate Bessacarr E795 privately about 4 years ago now for £19,800 and it was 2 owners from new, 1st owner only had it for 6 months, 23k on clock, full service history, gaslow, 2 leisure batteries ect, it was mint and much better than the latest Bessacarrs if u ask me, it was solid, dry as a bone and pulled like a train, I changed the rear lights to more modern ones and added solar. We done the whole of the UK, France, Spain and Portugal in a year and that thing didn't miss a beat, I kept it for a year and half before a lovely couple from Ireland bought it off me to live in whilst they worked on Game Of Thrones, it's still my favourite motorhome ive owned to this day. Ive seen how much rubbish is out there and scams too but there are decent motorhomes for 20k if you search hard enough. Building your own offgrid camper is defo something to consider, you would get a much newer van and kitted out to your preference but I do love a motorhome.

One important consideration for full-timing is where you will be in winter, or any time really, as to whether you need a heated double floor for water tanks.

These double floor tend to be in MHs on more expensive chassis, marques and models, which even secondhand may stretch your budget.

Keeping the tanks and pipwork ice-free can be got round with electrical heaters, but then a drain on batteries, according to ambient temperatures.
