I purchased my Autograph 796 new back in may 2017 and as such it is just coming due its first MOT (01/05/2020) at 4.25 Tonnes it is classed as P/HGV for taxation.

having looked at guidance I note that Lorries, busses and trailers have been given a 3 month extension to MOT due dates and now cars and vans have been given a 6 month extension.

I didn't see any specific mention of P/HGV and I am not driving a lorry (I think P/HGV may be included here though not certain), bus or trailer (as they define specified vehicles on the website) nor am I classed as a small van or car.

Simple thinks I, I will just check my MOT due date on line just to be safe, I put in my registration number and the system correctly identifies my van but unfortunately in the area designated for "First MOT Due Date" is the single word "Unknown".

I have Emailed them but am still awaiting a response (best I don't hold my breath waiting) so wondered if anyone else has already asked them and had a response.

I am sure you come under the extension, but almost irrelevant as you can’t use it anyway ??

You are phgv for tax , but for MOT you are a class 4 same as a car . Thats confirmed by the interval to your first MOT date , HGV (trucks etc ) only have a one year to first MOT .
So 6 month extension is relevant , HTSH :)

It's a rolling extended date and the 6 months commences next week I believe. So any mot due from mid April is extended to Oct. Then it depends if this lock down is extended.
For info MOT stations are open but it's not really a necessary journey is it.

Hi DavidG58 I know I cant use it now but I think as soon as we are allowed back in them my dogs will be packing the bags and waiting at the MH door for me within minutes.

hi tacr2man I hope you are right, my concern was that the webpage specifies light van (or other light vehicle) which added to the "Unknown" showing on my due date just leaves me a little uncertain, I will dig out the log book and see what is written on there.

If you go on link page I posted and click on the link to how to get MOT there is a list that mentions Motorcaravan what class and how much . motorcravan is not weight critical for MOT purpose , my RV was 12 tonnes and PHGV but still had a class 4 mot . Hope that puts your mind at rest :)

Where did you search to get ”1st MOT due Date” as you describe it
was the response “no details held” as opposed to “unknown” and who have you e mailed?

There is NOTHING to stop you using the motorhome?, so a blanket statement of that as a "fact" is erroneous. Some people don`t have a second vehicle, for one. Then there is the "unnecessary journey"?. IF you needed an "essential shop", the LAW does not stop you doing that?. Lack of an MOT might/would, as technically your insurance is invalid. MOT testing stations are (allowed to) open? As far as I am aware.

My MOT was renewed before this all happened (Feb). But had it not been, it would not have stopped me arranging one, providing I could satisfy myself that any necessary Isolation and social distancing could be maintained. In other words, do the proper "risk assessment".

I understand one garage local, has said they will collect, test, repair as needed, and redeliver. As a service and to keep their guys in work (Owner and his nephew) during an extremely bad time for them business wise.

Hi Cheshirecat57 the website was the government site DVLA and where the date was it just said “Unknown”, the site had a contacts page for queries which sent to a .gov address

Hi
To help its the DVSA not DVLA that you will need to contact, but the question has already been answered
The info on DVLA is "Date of Expiry" which is not the same as the answer to your question
FYI - if you search any HGV vehicle ( even a 5 year old one) it says "unknown" on the gov site
