Fiat ducato bessacar
Hi everyone..I'm new on here so looking for advice please..theres only me and the wife and dog...we have a bessacar/ fiat ducato 5.8m mh which we bought last November..we are going on our first continental holiday in it , going through the tunnel on April 25th..we will drive down from newcastle and arrive in calais terminal around 16.00..so would like a stop around 2 hrs from calais..we have driven a few times in the car and tend to go down the west , missing rouen and staying well clear of Paris..past bordeaux through somport tunnel and down to guardamar del segura in Spain...we would like to do a different route , either east, west or through the centre..don't care how long it takes..any advice and info on nice routes with good Aires to stay on..I have a pas de etapes with camping car..so would like a safe aire, don't mind paying...need some advice on getting through the pyrenees..also do I use the car lane on any toll roads..I won't have an electronic tag..apologies for long post...

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Have a look at Abbeyville for a cheeky first overnighter, do a search in here for where we stayed the night. No services etc but great SAFE stopover. I would then look to get to Lac du Frace for the second night - it's a long drive though but all motorway toll free or the fast route via Angers then on to La Rochelle (Lac du Frace is near there) Next stop for me would be Blaye, use the chateau not the Aire opposite. The chateau has free electricity and the town/citadel is well worth a visit

I can't personally recommend any aires as I haven't been to that area of France but I can highly recommend "all the aires" books. We used them last year around Brittany and the Loire and found them to be very useful, searched for some nice aires and then cross referenced them with park4night app to get up to date reviews.
Enjoy your adventure!

We usually aim at Le Crotoy harbour AIRE. There’s lots of space and an interesting position. (We’re there now.)
If avoiding Rouen- which we do - La Mallerais is good stopover.
If you stay nearer to the coast Honfleur gives a historic experience and the aire is currently being improved - not before time.
I‘ll be honest the electronic tag is not expensive and saves a good deal of hassle.

Have a look at Neufchatel en Bray.
The town is right beside the A28 going down towards Rouen after Abbey ville and has two junctions off the motorway. (8 and 9)
There is a family owned campsite and a newish well appointed aire right next door owned by the same family.

The town is is also well sorted for supermarkets.

Have a look at my trips links in my signature. Most start at Dieppe but that doesn't make much odds.
IF we lived near you Lenny, Newhaven would be our first choice.

Opens up a lot of Europe with ease in a motorhome at a lower cost than the other routes . I hope it remains as many other routes have and are falling by the quayside.

Newcastle - Norway
Hull - Zeebrugge
Harwich - Esbjerg

Seconded - Neufchatel en Bray is a great stopover 100 motorway-miles south of Calais - comfortable 2 hours. (y)

Link for the campsite and private aire. Camping is in the ACSI discount scheme. Lidl, Aldi and local supermarket and fuel just along the road. :giggle:

Wont suggest routes, not got a toll tag yet. You get a choice of which lane to take when you get to the tolls, car only lanes have height barriers, so don't use them, friend came a cropper when he forgot about the bikes he was carrying, oops.
some, few now, take cash, most are credit card and we have gone through 5 cards before getting one to work although that only happened once toll tag would be much easier, on my list of things to do before we set off, just to decide which one to get.
Editted to add on iphone footers are only seen in landscape mode.
