in Spain firestick via mobile phone keeps buffering. Do we need to get a wifi aerial . Plenty of data with ee .
 
Yes if signal poor, or change the SIM card to one that has a better signal. Can you choose who is your provider whilst away? If so try changing.

When abroad you can choose what ever network is fastest.
Go to the network settings on your phone and turn it to manual network then try each one till you find the fastest network.
I have found that sometimes a 3G network rain France can be faster sometimes so try turning the 4g setting off also.
 
What is it that you are watching? If it's football on a not entirely legal stream you might find the buffering problem is from their end.

Iplayer, Netflix etc usually don't lag if you have anything like a good signal.
 
Footy on itv but has been doing it all week on olympics and touring cars last sunday. For the future would a wifi aerial / booster improve things?

There probably wouldn’t (shouldn’t) be anything wrong with your WiFi connection between the fire stick and the phone. The issue lies with your cellular connection to your provider.
