wil a firestick run off 12v in motorhome for streaming.ta

Given that it uses a USB power supply (5 volts), mine does anyway the answer is yes if you have a good enough internet connection.

That’s what I was hoping.ta

Depends on the tv. Strangely enough it won’t work on the usb in my 240v tv at home, so I have to use the 240v plug that it comes with, but it works off the usb in both my Avtex’s in the MoHo. When it isn’t getting the power it wants it informs you of this.

Andy.

Same with our Samsung TV at home Andy needs the 230vac plug

My avtex w102d tv does not have hdmi port only usb so I don’t think we can use firestick with that one hopefully someone will tell me different

Exactly as Landy Andy posted, for me.

Some tv's usb give a 5v output but only enough power to drive a micro chip.
The firestick needs Mc Cains chunky chip power.

so is there a 12v power cable you can purchase to power the firestick? I have an Avtex tv

Thanks, I am not sorry not explaining myself well. I want to run the firestick from the 12v supply. in the van.the current plug and cable is for the 13amp supply

My Firestick (the original version) came with a USB lead and a 240V 3-pin USB output plug. If yours is the same, just connect the USB lead to a 12V USB plug or other USB outlet instead.

Of course:-) that is so simple. Sometimes we think things are more complicate than they are!.

Thanks for your help

My Avtex has a USB socket which will take the power USB lead that comes with the Firestick. There is enough power for the Avtex on 12v to power the Firestick.

Hi RoniDog - can I ask did it work as suggested from the TV? I'm just having the exact same question as my fire stick works of the mains on my home tv

Can I answer this. I have a fire stick when I stay at my brother's one TV I have to plug the USB into mains the other TV I just plug into the usb slot on the TV. In the motorhome it works perfectly on 12v plugging into hdmi and usb slot on TV.
Hope that helps

there are a couple of versions of firestick, the basic one takes far less power than the 4k version

should I mention side loading some extra apps so you can stream nearly any tv channel or film for free? great piece of kit the firestick when you learn how to use it to its best, and only £30 on amazon.... cheap entertainment for the van when you put it against a satellite system

Powering the Firestick is hit and miss. All depends on firestick and tv. One of my two house tvs work, and both the Avtex s are good. Only true way to know is to try it. It will tell you if it isn’t getting enough power.

Fire stick needs to plug into a hdmi port the usb will be for its power source...

Hi scotty1
The answer to your original question is yes.
The firestick requires a 5volt supply
As suggested, the usb port on all tv's supplies 5v but some do not supply enough enough power (watts) to power the firestick and some do, it is best to set it up this way and try it.

If it does not work then assuming that your 12v socket int the van is a bayonet type like a cigarette socket then you can buy a cheap plug that plugs into the socket and reduces the voltage to 5volt.
Best to buy the 2A version and off you go.
I think that you can get them from poundland but if not any motoring shop will sell them.
Any type of plug with a usb socket on the output should do this.

Not adding to the power discussion but if anyone thinking of buying one I'd fully reccomend the 4k version. You tv may not be 4k but the performance overall is much better.

Sorry for the very long delay, I knew I had forgotten to reply to a thread. The answer is yes it works perfectly.

Even when my two firesticks have said power supply (from tv) is not enough, they both still work perfectly ok.

just be careful not to overheat the usb port and circuit on the tv. Generally they don't produce more than a couple of hundred milliamps and especially the firestick 4k can try and draw 2 amps, so the socket would be working to it's maximum all the time.
