Can you watch live tv via firestick in Spain. Everytime we try it says we see you are not in the uk and doesn’t connect.

If you mean BBC, ITV I think you need a good vpn installed pin your firestick.

You need to get a vpn ( various sources) like nordvpn again just for example lots out there
Should work then

We were there last sep/Oct and it worked fine without a VPN , maybe it’s changed since brexit.

How are you connecting your stick to the internet? Mifi?
You never used to need a VPN when using a using stick on MiFi if using a uk purchased sim.

Depends on your Internet. If using a phone or other device for Internet it must have a UK sim.If not you need vpm.BUSBY.

Simon Meadwell, what they said Simon. (y)
It would appear that no matter what VPN you use when on WiFi abroad, the BBC have got it sussed and block you................even if you are a licence payer. With a UK sim card providing your data, they can't tell where you are. ;)

Good luck with it.

Jock. :)

Uk sim on EE 100gb of data per phone tethered to Firestick from phone. It either blocks the programme or it buffers. Disappointed with it wanted to watch the olympics but buffering stopped us. We have virgin go and still cant get anything. A good chance its user error not the equipment.

As others have said it should work with a UK sim. We recently had a problem with buffering or no internet, we solved this by plugging the usb into a separate port, not using the tv port.

The olympics? How slow is your connection?

Has the firestick been connected to Spanish WiFi at some point?

Check in network settings that the FS is actually connecting to your data rather than automatically trying to connect back to local WiFi.

Also the iplayer can be a bit funny if it has clocked your not using UK wifi on a previous attempt.

Have you tried manually selecting a different network? Movistar tends to have good coverage but does depend where you are.

The firestick is into the back of the tv how . We have other sockets but how does it connect to the tv blue tooth?

We have ExpressVPN installed on our Firestick in case required…

The USB port reference may have been for the power source for the Firestick, not all tv USB ports provide enough power hence maybe try using a USB port on the van instead as a test?

I watched all The Euros using my firestick and a Samsung phone as a hot spot with Vodaphone sim in Spain and France back in june/ July. No problem at all.BUSBY.

Firestick plugged into mains then into tv. Unplugged it again for a minute and back in. No vpn but some say you need one some you dont.

Got uk sim
Plugged in mains
Got data
Still buffering
Just spent an hour trying to download iptv via downloader got half way through wouldn’t download.
Just put cricket on buffering evey five minutes so given up if i was at home i would smash the thing to bits in frustration but on holiday so opened a tinny.
God knows what we do next to make it work.
Will leave and see if somebody can set it up at home.

Try clearing your cache in the fire stick

100 gb data
Plugged in mains
Still buffering
Just tried to download iptv via downloader app
Wouldnt load
Just put cricket on buffering
So no good imo

Surely buffering doesn’t matter for cricket

Sometime I’ve had to pick which network my mifi is on and often better on 3g than 4g. Also they do need turning off and on now and again. Especially when changing country, or big journeys.

Sorry, I dont get the bluetooth part, you'll need to explain. Can you get your hands on a Smarty or Giffgaff card, those usually work fine abroad.

Or how about trying the info in the link below. It sure is frustrating when you cant get it to work.

Another thought, you have 100Gb of data, but you won’t be allowed to use all that abroad. They will let you have 20Gb then either stop, or slow it.

seems a lot of uncertainty as to the reliability of streaming when abroad .
Either weak 4G or the need for a VPN .
My experiences were 50/50 with some rural areas even using a roof mounted antennae it near impossible to get a stable picture without buffering .

I don't know where you are but doing a speed test on different devices should give you an indication of where the problem lies.

Simon, I too had the buffering experience, until I used an independent 12v supply, rather than the USB port on the TV. It worked effortlessly after that power wise.
At busy times of the day, we have experienced buffering too, even on the home TV, but that has been down to data signal strength.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I have found on the continent that some times you get better download speeds on 3G than 4g especially in rural France for some reason.
You also do not need to use the overseas carrier that your home network has partnered with.
Turn off automatic carrier selection and try all the networks to find the fastest one.
