Yes, despite the imminent demise of us all at the hands of desperados duck-taping themselves to our bike racks, we are still going to France on Saturday. Bit sad that we're not getting there til 1800 hrs as that means we can't drive most of the way down, due to getting there 2 in the morning and having never used an aire before.

Sooooo............. 2 weeks in France, mostly aires but the odd acsi campsite...... is it worth taking the firepit/BBq ? Read that not many places allow fires ? Advice very welcome pls, as long as it doesn't involve immigrants :)

If it's self contained and won't burn the ground then I don't see why not. Most French people I've met love a good fire/bbq. Have a fab time! :)

Some aire's you can use a BBQ, fire pit No, campsites are ok with BBQ, gas is easier to use and pack away. we are off saturday as well:)

Seen bbqs used on Aires in fact used mine (gas) but never seen a firepit used, pretty sure you'd have complaints if you did.

Only used a few aires and 3 campsites whilst in france ...rest of the time we wild camped as there's literally dozens of places over there

I use a waist height charcoal bbq and usually have a fire in it afterwards ,had it lit every second night I reckon didn't have any probs

Few places we stayed in the south of France don’t even allow charcoal barbies due to the fire risk with the dry summer vegetation.

It's basically this ...... https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=folding fire pit bbq&tbm=shop&spd=6957926417236634489 . So can burn charcoal and bbq on it, or burn charcoal and warm wine-filled hands with it :D or just burn driftwood, logs etc. So some will some won't ? It folds down but just a pain if we're only gonna use it twice.

I guess you don't fancy wildcamping?

I found some great spots .....usually 2 or 3 vans at them .....Most people had bbq ' s going

Normally we'd love it, but still full sling after dislocating shoulder a few weeks ago, so thinking best be on safe side and be near people/services etc. We will do in June tho :)
