I don't think there is a requirement for a fire escape in a motorhome but it's always a good idea to think about how you would exit in a variety of emergencies and plan accordingly.

The Escape is their budget range, the fittings are there just to hold the window in place. Means the van can produced the same as other vans but they save a few bob on catches & struts, probably find an opening window is on the options lists for loads of money.

If you desperately need to escape a fire in a motorhome then ANY window is a fire escape.
Plastic windows and latches are no match to a size 10 boot or even a well aimed elbow.
The fire will cause far more damage than kicking out a window.

Does the MH have a bike rack? If so it may be that the previous owners (assuming it's second hand) have removed them to prevent it being opened onto the rack and damaging the window.

If you can post a picture of the accused window it would help. Just use the "Upload a file" button. :)

Ah-ha ... I think I've solved it! If its the one on the offside rear it's because the boiler vent is right below it so in order to prevent fumes entering the MH the window has been permanently prevented from opening - it's a gas safety requirement, nothing wrong with it at all.
